Used SF leaks as a negotioting ploy? If so, that worked in a hurry.

Jon Gruden just resigned with ESPN until 2021...so I think we can eliminate him from our discussion.

What I don't understand is why the Niners would want Gruden. He has never, ever, developed a young QB into a star. He specializes in aging QBs with decent accuracy but no power (Gannon, Garcia). He was the head coach in Tampa for almost a decade, but only on two occasions were his offenses ranked in the top half for yards (10th in 2003, 14th in 2008) and was never ranked in the top half for points. And although Tampa Bay's defenses were usually stout, that was mostly due to Monte Kiffen. Gruden also passed on a young Aaron Rodgers, to take Carnell Williams. Frank Gore was available in the same draft. So he's not some great talent evaluator either.
People are quick to think of Gruden because of his spotlight in the media, but I think it's obvious that he's not the man for the job.

It's just hard to argue against Gase. After reading more I'm beginning to understand why he's getting so much of the vote.
Its actually really easy to argue against
The last two Manning OCs (McCoy & Moore) have dropped off around 10 spots in the offensive ranking when not having Manning as there QB. Mike McCoy who was talked about being such a great offensive mind because he got a Tebow lead offensive into the playoffs and then a great year they had under Manning. Right now he is 8-6 (after going 9-7 last year) and has the 21st ranked offense. Gase has not done much outside of working for Denver. In Detroit in his one year as QB coach Kitna threw 20 INT's with a 80.9 QB rating. In his one year as Denver QB coach Tebow completed 46% of his passes. Yes some posters have posted articles about how much players and coaches love him, but you can find those about anyone. Look at the last wonder kid coach, Josh McDaniels, who was proclaimed an "offensive genius" in NE & went to Denver at age 33 (Gase is 36) and flamed out and then went to St. Louis and continued to struggle until running back to NE.
#11/12 in total offense would be great, compared to where we've been.
McCoy is 17-13 so far in San Diego. If you want to be 15th in offense (which would be an improvement) while battling to go 9-7 & 10-6 each year, i think you will be in the minority.
I think our defense is just a leetle better than SD's.

There defense is 9th. So they are a top 10 defense.

Yup. IIRC we were ranked 12th in 2012 and that was good enough for a SB run.
Considering the slow pace of this offense, we probably run fewer plays than most teams. 12th is probably maxing out the offense.
Actually we were 11th in 2012.

This....I always thought his "will he or won't he" coaching bit was simply a ploy to get a bigger paycheck from ESPN.

Never wanted him anyways, glad that he is officially off the table.

Dont worry, Harbaugh is not leaving. Newsflash: the media makes s**t up. How do people take these guys seriously when theyre already speaking in the past tense? f**king Kawakami idiots.
Oh and 70 pages, wow. It seems like if we need 70 pages of debating college ranks and 69 year olds and cooridinators that are too scared to leave their warm confines behind great quarterbacks, then we're already in trouble without Harbaugh.
Good thing hes still here !! Go Harbaugh and fire somebody brother!
