We're gonna run a fake handoff to Hyde to the right. Alex Boone is gonna pull a "circle" block. He'll step back for half a second and then take off as a lead blocker for CK. Looney is gonna pull out as well and try and seal the edge.

You see how aggressive the Rams were towards the run. All their LB's are occupied by the run fake.

Because the outside defender was so aggressive against the run fake, Looney is able to easily seal the edge leaving the outside wide open.

CK's out in space with a lot of room to run. Boone thinks he's got a good lead - but, he's just not fast enough lol.

CK's gazelle legs catch up with Boone in about 4 steps lol.

We get the first down and set up 1st and goal. Great call by G-Ro to catch St. Louis in over aggressive behavior.

Boone was trying as hard as he could to lead out on that play -but running really isn't his strong suite.....haha

Is this the play we ran with Young to neutralize Charles Haley in the 94 nfccg?

This is the next RB running play that was called on the opening drive of the second half. It is not from 11 personnel, but looks like it. STL is in base 4-3. Just in case anyone was watching the game over and may have thought it was 11. It is somewhat a spread formation, but it's not 11.

This play will not be included of the tally of 'Runs from 11 Personnel'. Just wanted to show that it may look like a 3WR set, but only in formation. -2 yards.

Runs from 11 Personnel
#3 (this is the final run from the opening drive of the second half)

Rams nickel

Same play as #1. Split zone.

VD's orange block on the cutback defender.

Runs from 11 Personnel
#4

Bunch formation. This is the play where Iupati got injured.

Pull Iupati for the kickout block, VD leads through the hole off right tackle. So Gore has a lead blocker, the lead blocker just wasn't in the backfield like a FB.

+7 yards.

Runs from 11 Personnel
#5

Bunch formation

Pull Boone for off tackle left. VD has a very difficult block on Robert Quinn (red) as Quinn has lined up on VD's inside shoulder.

The red arrow is pointing to VD's left leg. Quinn is able to push VD into the backfield. Boone trying to lead through the hole, can't get through the hole due to VD having a hard time with Quinn.

Gore for no gain. (lol Boldin)

Runs from 11 Personnel
#6 (last one)

Inside zone

Gore sees nothing to the inside and will bounce it outside.

RQuinn does a nice job shedding Staley's block.

Runs from 11 Personnel

#1: +7 yards
#2: +7 yards
#3: +9 yards
#4: +7 yards
#5: no gain
#6: +1 yard

So from 11 personnel, the 49ers had 6 carries for 31 yards (5 yd/carry). The first four times the did it they had lots of success. With SJ and Lloyd being good contributors, it makes a lot of sense to put one of them on the field and test the other team's nickel package. Both passing and running the ball. In the offseason, I thought Hyde would be the back to excel in 11 since he came from a one back offense in college running a bunch of inside zone plays. It may not be in his immediate future if Gore continues to show he operates just fine without a traditional backfield lead blocker.

Here's the Boldin TD catch to cap off the opening drive of the second half.

49ers bring in Looney as the second TE to help sell run. Play action and try to hit VD on the Corner route.

After playaction, Kap looks up and sees that VD is bracketed. The CB on VD is not fooled by the playaction.

Kap eventually rolls left. We know what happens. This is where Boldin is when Kap winds up his throw. What?!

Boldin is not even open.

I've never seen a better play by a quarterback. There is probably only one individual on earth that can throw this ball out of this situation and the Niners are lucky enough to have him play quarterback for them. Kaepernick's throwing from his back-foot under pressure and on the run to the left as a right-handed quarterback (across his body) over two defenders to a receiver who's pretty well covered at the time he lets go of the ball. Unreal. Show this play to the people who are whining for Alex (or pretty much any other quarterback in the league) and make them shut up.

Again, nice job by Kilgore in dominating and moving the DT out of the way on this middle run, and again another nice trap block by Vernon Davis. I noticed how Vernon uses his speed to get to the trap block and Gore cuts off of it. Vernon really is important in the runs and passes. Thank god he's back.

Looks like the Rams were run blitzing on this play. They overloaded the side where the run was going and just collapsed the run lanes. Good job by the Rams in defending this play. Not much Gore or the O Line could do, unless they called a different play.

Really nice pass protection here across the board. Gore again did a fine job in helping the O Line out. Kilgore did a great job in just keeping on his guy and slowing him down. Kilgore shows his athleticism and quickness here and that's why I think in a pass first offense, he'd be outstanding. Gave time for Colin to lob that pass to Anquan. It's funny how Staley got twirled around because the DE hooks and holds him to prevent him from going out on the pass pattern. Great job by Colin to look to his probably 3rd read and fire a pass to him.

he's gaining more and more confidence as he continues to play, and he'll surprise some people, I think, in the Denver game. If he beats Manning, of course it's because manning had a bad day, and if he loses to Manning it's because Manning was an outstanding elite QB. He can't win in the media's eyes. but I don't care, I just want that Lombardi. If midget can do it, Colin can. Screw the press accolades, they can jump off a tall bridge for all I care.
