Yes. Thank you. And we as fans need to admit this. The coaching staff needs to admit this. Kap needs to admit this and work on his pocket game DAILY. Everyday. Day in day out. He should be working on it right now till 2 AM. Wake up at 8AM and start in again. Non stop. Like an obsessed maniac. Swallow your pride Kap and work with Whitfield daily, in public, at practice, in private....everywhere. Just f**king do it. If you're reading this, which is highly unlikely.

I think he's working on it. His dedication has never been questioned, but all that matters in the end is the results. Either he can do it, or he can't. Tony Romo works his ass off, but can't shake off the mistakes that have plagued his career. I don't want Kap to be that guy.

My gut says he can do it, but he's got to show it consistently. It's been a roller-coaster ride with him. He had some excellent games in 2013, followed by games where he was absolutely brutal against SEA, CAR, NO. Now this year, very efficient game against Dallas, followed by complete meltdown in Week 2. Gotta find that consistency and the answer is in the pocket.

Truth is, the 49ers already made that decision in 2012 when they first gave Kap the keys to the car. He's got all the tools and dedication to make it work, and that's what the team is betting on.

I don't think either approach is right or wrong. There are examples of both succeeding and failing. For every Peyton Manning there is a Tim Couch. For every Steve Young there is a Vince Young.

Yes, that's true. But, the problem being is we are all harping on Kap that so far he hasn't been able to become that proficient pocket passer.

I am not even saying it is an "either or" type situation as in pocket passer vs mobile QB from a mutually exclusive standpoint, but may be our coaches could think about whether we should just focus on building on his strengths in being a mobile read-option type QB ? I don't know the answer to that. In reality, I believe Kap will probably become someone in between, a guy who can do all the mobile read option stuff as well as being a relatively proficient pocket passer. The only question then becomes whether "relatively proficient" will be good enough to win us our 6th Super Bowl ?

Like the Redskins, I guess at some point we will have to decide what we actually want out of our QB. I have a feeling that will most likely be dictated by results and with that I am sure there will be a subconscious time frame attached to it. Say if Kap can't win us a Super Bowl this year, will next year be OK or the year after... ? Naturally, the longer our Quest For 6 lingers on, the sooner we will need to raise the question whether may be we should just switch tact and go the elite pocket passer route instead ?

Personally speaking, yes I did fall in love with Kap's athletic ability, but to me proper pocket passing is by far the more important attribute in the role of a great QB. But, that's just me.

The read-option is done in the NFL. The last nail in the coffin was the rule change just before last season where the QB can be hit like a running back even if he doesn't have the ball but D coordinators had also figured it out. Without the read-option Kaps run threat depends on him NOT consistently fully going through progressions. He either commits to the pass fully or halfass. In the Dallas game he committed to the pass fully and has done so in other games. Stayed in the pocket and didn't even think about running. He did well in the first half but Dallas adjusted and Dallas has a weak D so it wasn't that much of a great game for Kap. This week against a battered Chicago defense was just weak.

I think he somehow needs to be able to turn off his run instincts. Like a switch in his head. And if the pocket completely breaks down then scramble and if no one is open then run...be more of a Steve Young run threat where the run is secondary to the pocket game. Like Steve said tie his dam legs together in practice if they have to. He has to religiously work on becoming a better pocket passer. Daily. It really pissed me off that he wasn't working with Whitfield daily in the offseason and in camp. It's like there's a sort of denial there. A cockiness. A couple more games like this and he wont have a choice but to humble himself and work with Whitfield every single day in practice. I think he's been coddled by Jim in order to build confidence. I think we also need to bring in a vet and draft another QB to put pressure on Kap. Let him know that play like this will result in a benching....new contract or not. And just fore Roman right now. This crap just needs to stop now. He's an NFL starting QB and cant panic like he did tonight. He totally had a meltdown and threw the game away at a time when the Niners need every win they can get. Roman's mid/late game play calling was crap as well and deteriorated with Kaps play. And we wont be able to maintain the 2011/2012/2013 defense forever. There will be a time when our current (weakened) defense will be the norm. We simply cant maintain Bowman/Aldon/Willis/Brooks/Justin forever. We cant rely on a D that shuts teams down to 15 points a game. We're going to have to be able to score more on a consistent basis. Kap is going to have to take the step to the next level and I was hoping it would happen early this season while Bowman/Smith are out but not after tonight.

The friggin penalties were out of control BUT you simply cant win games with 4 turnovers. Not with the filed position we gave Chicago. And Ward is too small to be covering Marshal on an island. That was just asking for it but again we shouldn't have been in that position. This game should have been won at halftime. And when we started t run it was into a stacked box because the passing game was so pathetic. And Roman ran at the wrong times. Again. And the 4th quarter meltdown was almost surreal. It's like everyone decided to give up. I'm just going to try to forget this game ever happened and hope we can win in Arizona next week but I'm not feeling very good about it. Kap is going to be facing abetter defense, a better secondary and they're forsure going to stack the box on us just about every down. Our O-line needs to go into this game possessed and we need to run no matter what. Gore/Hyde will win the game in Arizona if we're to win, not Kap.

And they plan to cover floyd and fitz how?

Dude have some faith. We have a good team here not a bunch of yahoos. They will bounce back and examine what went wrong and execute properly on the next game. I also think they felt embarassed by their gameplay lastnight so I expect them to redeem themselves by beating Arizona.

If Drew Stanton is starting, we might have a chance.

This should be a lesson learned, that you don't take anyone for granted. No matter how much it seems like you've got the game in the bag and that the opponent is going to lay down for you. Bing, bang a turn over here a fumble there and next thing you know you lost your stadium opener. I hope they learn from this and take it with them going forward.

Its on you!!!!This one is on Kape7
I can't really give the bears any credit. That was an awful game by us. Way to many drive sustaining penalties that let them stay in the game. Kaepernick was unlucky on a couple of those interceptions... It could have been. 4 though but the first one was called incomplete pass.

Biggest thing. 2nd half we either get tired or don't make adjustments.... Have we scored in the 2nd half yet on offense?

I knew this was going to be a rough season but I guess we'll see what happens.

On to Arizona, if we get it together we should do okay. Just a bad game.

Honestly, I think they will continue to play the conservative crap. I hope I'm wrong but Harbaugh has never stayed away from that.
When does Anthony Davis because that Oline play was atrocious.

With this so-called new an improved offense, new playbook, Kaep having more control of the offense...at the end of the day its still Kaep making those decisions at the line and who/where to throw it. People can blame Harbs/Roman/Fangio/the turf but its was Kaeps 4 TO's that lost us this game. It should have never came down to that desperation pass to Crabs (which he could have caught). You can hear Kaep "kill kill kill" so many plays and makes you wonder if he was making the wrong play call. I think Kaep, and the rest of the team, were too confident coming into this game. Yes they didn't run the ball enough and wanted to throw the ball, but to do that without Lloyd and Patton active? And to make things worse Vernon left the game.

The D, with the state that its in with the drama and MIA's, was playing well in the 1st half up until Chicago's 1st TD. After that it went downhill with unanswered points. We all knew the D was going to have games like this but thats why this so-called new improved offense was supposed to pick up the slack. Not one TD drive in this game but again the D had to help the offense get into position to score again. Our CB's are going to get destroyed by big WR's. Marshall/Jeffries were making it look easy with their size and they were playing hurt. We face 2 big WR's again next week with Fitz/Floyd. Again I think the niners got to confident because I don't even think they activated Cook who I would have put on Marshall, at least in the slot due to his size. The Bears clearly put Marshall on Ward cuz they knew it was a matchup issue.

Yes we lost, it really sucks, because this was our opening game in the new stadium against a Bears team that everyone made it look like a cake walk throughout the week. The statement that the niners made Sunday night..1) they don't have a homefield advantage at home, 2) the offense doesn't strike fear into anyone when it was supposed to, and 3) Kaep still has accuracy/decision issues.
How about some halftime adjustments? WE DID NOTHING IN THE 2nd HALF TWO WEEKS IN A ROW!!!!!

Honestly I don't think they were. Had they played the conservative crap they would have been run, run, run. But they didn't run so much, maybe that was the issue. Remember in Week 1 last year they came out throwing to beat the Packers. Then in the next 2 games they came out throwing and lost. I see this pattern happening again. And to do that with Lloyd and Patton inactive?

The niners got beat the same way the Hawks got beat today, with dink and dunk passes and TO's. Only difference is the Hawks were on the road (which is normal for them to lose) and the niners were at home on opening night. Now that was embarrassing especially on national TV and everyone and every team found out that the niners DO NOT have a homefield advantage at home. I expected our losses would be on the road (Denver, NO, etc.) but not at home. Very disappointing.
I stayed up and watched the whole game..it was stop/start football all game long. I lost track of how many times a flag was called on a questionable call against us. If this is how NFL games are going to be called, then Goodell will have more problems than just Ray Rice. The on-field product will suffer and, eventually, ratings will fall.

Kap. made his mistakes. No excuses, but I'm not going to lose my mind on the 2nd game of the season. We've seen enough of Kaepernick to know he's not a turnover machine. I see this game as an exception to his game not the rule. Even the best QB's have bad games.

No question he has room to improve and he's going to have to in order for us the get our 6. Bottom line, and I've posted this before, I expect him to improve in completion %, total yardage, and touchdowns this season. Even with this game, nothing's changed for me.

Jonathan Martin was a revolving door on several plays. Brandon Marshall is a beast.

Kap just can't have games like this. His arrogant attitude is overlooked when he's winning, but when he melts down against the bears 2nd string defense he's gonna wish he had a bigger piece of humble pie. Screw the penalties, this game is all on him
