Training Camp Hype = Pre-season game duds

OP nailed it. Clearly, given Harbaugh's and Baalke's upper competitive win now attitudes, they have thrown the NFL the ultimate curve ball in this the inaugural season at Levi's and decided in August to throw in the towel for the season and suck for Luck...er Winston in the '15 draft! Good call!!!

How has that tempo worked out for them over the past couple of years against the 49ers?

I understand the past, but if we see a drop-off in our defensive play, then it could start to catch up with us in the fact that we may not be able to keep with some teams in scoring points. Im looking at the future, not past seasons where we didnt win the Superbowl.

They have better back ups.

The hype mostly comes from the fans. There are a few posters here in particular who interpret a few lines from practice reports and then hyperbolize and hypothesize, call the player the next blank and are essentially full of hot air. So if you buy into the hype without any actual evidence blame yourself and your thirst for any nfl news after a long offseason.

When I'm having a down day, I will come back to this thread for a laugh.

The funny thing is most of the players getting positive reviews from camp have showed up during the pre-season. Hyde, Ellington, Dial, Carradine, Ward..these guys have flashed legit ability.

I'm not worried about these pre-season scores because the individuals I'm focusing on are performing reasonably well. As a UNIT, they are struggling, but that has to do with a few individuals performing at a very poor level.

Like Kap said at his presser, if one guys messes up it screws up the whole play. Right now there are players taking turns at screwing up. Blame goes equally to the players and coaches for not preparing adequately, but it will be a non-issue once the season starts. All the starters are ready to roll, and these backups will only play on a limited basis, in situations they excel at.

Training camp reports are always over-hyped by the press. This is nothing new, same thing year after year. Never buy into the day to day events when it's just practice.

The first two pre-season games were played a bit carelessly in my opinion. Is that by design, who knows. Regardless, the rookies and new players who want to make the team had a chance to show something, and they didn't.
Kaep also said the 49ers made too many mistakes today, so it's not like the players didn't try.

It's a pre-season game, so for what it's worth.

Dont hit the panic button yet. Its preseason. But they def need to tighten up. We must be sharp early in the season esp being down so many men.

The division and homefield comes down to a game or two..which we CAN NOT give away this yr because we got outta the gates slow.

how many men compared to dallas are we down? all fully healthy aren't we head and shoulders above the cowboys when comparing talent?

lol, we're judging backups in preseason?

If I remember correctly, the Detroit Lions finished the preseason 4-0, then went on to go 0-16 in the regular season.

We already know who the starters are.

We are at the point sifting through the backups to see who will make the team.

With a score like that, it will be easy to see who gets cut and who stays.

I'd rather that we get all the mistakes now so that the coaches can see what is working and what needs to be fixed.

I would give important reps to the backups, so that they will be ready in case of injury to the starters.

Most important of all... NO MAJOR INJURIES!

i'm glad. Pre-season wins ALWAYS translates to horrible regular seasons.

Good point. There is still 2 more preseason games to tighten up things. The biggest saving grace is that these games don't count. There were no serious injuries as far as I saw - other than the concussion. As much as I now have a bad feeling about the regular season. We still have time to turn things around.

Remember some of the preseason standouts last season?
Cam Johnson in the final preseason game (blocked punt for a touchdown, a couple sacks)?
Lavelle Hawkins (his circus catch / broken tackles on his 40+ yard touchdown catch, or his kickoff return touchdown)?
B.J. Daniels and his general dominance every time he got into the game?

None of those guys did anything last year in the regular season.

Anyway, so far, I think the first team offense has looked fine. They've moved the ball well, Kaep has showed improvement (i.e. utilizing checkdowns), etc. The defense hasn't looked great, but I don't think at any point we've had our full starting defense out there anyway.

Anyway. I'm not really worried. Preseason results -- good or bad -- often mean nothing.
