He looked lost and confused out. hopefully he can settle down but he doesn't look close to starting material

Not completely true. He made some good tackles out there. Even the announcers were complimenting him. Saying he will push at ILB.

IMO a lot of WZers did not like this pick because they don't know midwest college football. They don't watch it. So they automatically assumed it was bad. Now they have already set in stone notions about him and try to fit all evidence into that preconcieved set of notions.

He really did not play as bad as made out to be. He made some good tackles and played well on special teams. He got complimented by the TV analysts even. He was not the disaster made out to be here on the WZ. Was it perfect? No. We also had garbage D Linemen out there who are backup scrubs and they were getting owned all night with the exception of Dial. Plus it is his first preseason game of his rookie year. So I would expect him to be out of position or confused a few times. Which did happen. But............ was not on every single play like these WZers make it out to be......

He had some good. Some bad. Some nice tackles. Some confusion. Like I would expect for a rookie in their 1st game of the preseason. but in no way was it ALL bad like has been made out to be in this thread. Watch it again on rewind. There is some good in there too that people are ignoring. Because they want to IMO. It's their agenda with him.

I had no problem with the pick. I've watched him a ton. I'm a Michigan fan. I just thought he looked a little lost.

he made a great ST play and was schooled hard on a play action pass. He looked like a promising rookie in his first preseason game, lets see how he does the next couple games.

I'm not saying necessarily you. But the WZ in general. I have a lot of relatives in the midwest and I watch a lot of midwest teams including Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State and some others.

But if you are a Michigan fan you certainly know what Borland can do and can be when he gets more confortable and learns all the defensive schemes and plays. Playing with a first line D Line unit would help him too.

and you're going to make that judgement based off of a preseason game in which we had all backups starting on the D-line?

And LBs.

Brooks started
I'm more interested in if he was in position to make plays rather than if he made every play or not. It will take time for him to adjust to the physicality and speed of the NFL, but if he was mostly in the correct spots, I think that's more telling.

this dude is hot garbage. I don't get the hype. I was re-watching the preseason game and yes, this guy is always around the tackle but he's also always there late. Saw him bite on playaction a bunch of times, then there's this.

lost count how many times he blindly launched himself towards the pile, often times hitting our own players.

he gets an A for effort but dude just sucks.

Still the worst pick of the draft
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – What kind of marks did Chris Borland give himself for his first NFL game? "Up and down," said the inside linebacker from Wisconsin. "It could have been better."

Borland, a third-round draft pick, was very active in the San Francisco 49ers' 23-3 loss to Baltimore on Thursday night. He was near the play often, but finished with one defensive tackle and one tackle on special teams. Borland has had a good training camp and is pushing Michael Wilhoite, who had a good game Thursday night, to replace NaVorro Bowman in the first half of the season as Bowman recovers from a torn ACL.

Earlier in camp, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said one of Borland's best attributes – his instincts – were getting him into trouble at times in camp. Borland said he wants to improve his pre-snap work for the 49ers' second preseason game next Sunday at Levi's Stadium against Denver. "I was pressing to make plays too much," Borland said. "I want to be calmer as we move on."

I think Borland is a guy who will be an impact player if he can stay healthy. You can see that he's thinking too much at times instead of just reacting. He doesn't really seem to trust what he's seeing and that's hardly unusual for a rookie to do. I expect steady improvement from him throughout the preseason and think he's got a good shot at being the starting ILB opposite Willis in the first game this year. He's got natural playmaking ability and football instincts that you can't teach someone. He's not really fast but he plays fast, he diagnoses and attacks the ball carrier. Once he catches up to the speed of the game, stops being tentative, he's going to be destroying people out there. I expect a much better showing against Denver from him.

Horrible pick when it was made...and an even worse pick now.

Gonna be awesome to come back and re-post all these negative comments about a year from now. People are bashing on this guy for the dumbest of reasons. He's a pure football player in every sense, he's excelled with every opportunity he's gotten. Nobody thought he could perform in college either and he ended up dominating. He's certainly got the ability to be a pretty good NFL player as well, he may or may not work out but I'm not going to jump ship based on the results of a single preseason game.

This sounds like the "Aldon always has his hands on his hips" type BS that is so common around here during the preseason.
