he is laterally challenged.Plus he Likes to play deep because he loves his eyes. Bad combination in the NFL. I think he can change though.
He looks funny out there.
3rd round pick we need to relax it took Bowman a few years until he excelled

oh man, please tell me you didn't just compare this scrub to bowman? Only reason Bowman sat is because we had Spikes. When Bowman got his shot, he came in and dominated.

Not completely true. He made some good tackles out there. Even the announcers were complimenting him. Saying he will push at ILB.

IMO a lot of WZers did not like this pick because they don't know midwest college football. They don't watch it. So they automatically assumed it was bad. Now they have already set in stone notions about him and try to fit all evidence into that preconcieved set of notions.

He really did not play as bad as made out to be. He made some good tackles and played well on special teams. He got complimented by the TV analysts even. He was not the disaster made out to be here on the WZ. Was it perfect? No. We also had garbage D Linemen out there who are backup scrubs and they were getting owned all night with the exception of Dial. Plus it is his first preseason game of his rookie year. So I would expect him to be out of position or confused a few times. Which did happen. But............ was not on every single play like these WZers make it out to be......

He had some good. Some bad. Some nice tackles. Some confusion. Like I would expect for a rookie in their 1st game of the preseason. but in no way was it ALL bad like has been made out to be in this thread. Watch it again on rewind. There is some good in there too that people are ignoring. Because they want to IMO. It's their agenda with him.

Oh good God. My God. Am I about to agree with San Diego?

Yes.

I watched Borland on every play. Not only did the guy "create" at least 5-6 tackles, but his ability to move is rare.

First kickoff. Who doesn't get credited with the tackle? Borland. Who caused the tackle? Borland. That is how the rest of the game went. He was involved in a lot of tackles, although not getting credit.
I am as excited about him as I was about Bowman when I first saw Bowman.
Laugh all you want, but he reminds me of Mike Singletary. He can move, he is low to the ground, powerful, instinctive, he can run with TE's.

He had one play where he bit on a play-action, I guess that is what the hate is about. That is pretty ridiculous to me, but whatever. I can't wait to see this guy play again.
I'm hearing nothing but good news about this guy.

Agreed. This kid was the second best ILB in the draft in my opinion. He will "get it" eventually. He's a rookie and even though he's quite a talented one, I am not going to have astronomical expectations of him right out of the gate. He'll learn and adapt in due time.

This. As much as he gets knocked on for his size, there's certain advantage that come with it as well.

OHhhhhhhhhhhh the irony

I think the preseason game showed how negatively his lack of length is going to hurt him in the NFL. There were more than a few instances where he was in the right place, but unable to make the play due to his lack of length and the speed of the NFL. Will he improve? Maybe, or maybe he is at his ceiling and is just not long enough to play in the NFL.

Has there ever been a defender with his measurables, say in the last 20 years, that's been successful? I don't mean "well this guy wasn't that much bigger" I mean at his height, weight, speed, length?

Will he make it, I don't know but I don't like the risk in the 3rd. This kinda seems like a pick where Baalke is gonna show someone his evaluation of Borland was right. I wish he'd have stuck to long players. They have been pretty successful for him to this point.

I agree 100% with you guys.
At the very least Borland should be a ST ace and our #3 LB for 4 years to come. Well maybe #4 this year but probably 3 from there on out. Borland should allow us to get rid of one or two of the old guys (Osgood/Dahl/Ventrone/Costanzo) taking up a roster spot that can't really contribute at their positions. I'm a Badger fan so got to see a lot of Borland the only thing I worry about with him is his coverage. Can he keep up with the TE's and if he can can he break up the pass being at a height disadvantage? Then again who isn't these days with many TE's being 6'3 to 6'6.
