Borland looked so bad during the preseason. I'm very, very impressed with the progress he's made this season. He really should be a defensive rookie of the year candidate. He's all over the field and making plays consistently. I know Willis and Bowman are both potential hall of famers, but damn it would be hard to sit Borland next year when they're both back healthy. He plays with a ferocity I haven't seen in a while.

I don't even think he looked that bad in the preseason. He looked like a rookie that was thinking too much at times and arriving at the ball just a second too late. I knew once he caught up to the speed of the game that he'd be a gamer and he showed improvement game by game.

Fair enough. I thought he looked slow to react and because of that thought it would take him a while to adjust to the NFL. I also thought he was overly eager to play the run and would struggle in passing situations.

This is why I'm not a coach. LOL.

team leader in tackles in only 4 games.

Glad to see people are finally coming around on the 2014 draft.

To be fair, receiver was perceived as a very big weakness going into this season. In addition, linebacker was anything but a perceived weakness.

That being said, full credit needs to be given to Baalke for sticking to his drafting philosophy and taking the players he wanted. It's really proven to be a boon this year. Ward, Hyde, Lynch, Borland, all are making big contributions to this team.
Borland should be a real DPOY canidate but all the media are d riding Mack and Mosley. He should be a lock for the pro bowl tho.

Me too. Watching him fumble around the preseason and the first few games he played I thought he lacked the speed and strength to play. I still think he would be a better 4-3 MLB who is kept clean rather than a 3-4 ILB but he is playing much faster than I thought he was capable of. What I like about the past two weeks is he is playing behind the LOS at times now.
it's not about physical attributes with him it was about his recognition. in preseason he wasn't comfortable and he was getting used to the system and how he would be used. now he knows his role and in film study retains what the other team is trying to do. he immediately recognizes things and then goes into action. recognition is going to take him further than any of his physical attributes could. there are some guys out there with incredible 40 times and agility and verticals as well as longest arms in the world but can't diagnose a play to execute it to save their lives.

I hope he learns to bat down the ball on 4th down inside the 5. Having the offense start inside the 5 in a one score game with 5 minutes to go is not ideal.

So glad we didn't do this. The way our offense looks nobody would made a difference.
