Bad seasons are almost like golf for me. When your out there, even if you don't end up breaking 80, you can still get a lot of satisfaction out of a few real good shots. And when you know the Niners aren't really going anywhere in a given season, it's nice to see them make some plays and win a game here and there.

That's counterproductive to actually discussing something.

Truth: Kaepernick had everything a young QB could dream to have. Stability, talent, blocking.

Truth: Kaepernick has gotten worse every single year since the team's appearance in the SB.

Truth: Kaepernick's regression coincided with the loss of talent due to injury or offseason losses.

Truth: Even with talent still being on the roster, Kaepernick made absolutely NO ONE better and even became the reason the offense bogged down.

Truth: Blaine Gabbert has come into an even worse situation than Kaepernick had because of the further loss of talent and actually made this offense look halfway competent.

Truth: None of the playcalling has changed since Gabbert became the starter.

Truth: Gabbert performed better than Kaepernick against the same defenses that made people create TV segments and write articles about how the 49ers totally need to go in a different direction at QB.

Truth: The team looks and carries themselves in a more competitive nature/disposition than they did with Colin Kaepernick at QB.

Now I ask any of you to dispute any of those statements in a fashion that does not include sarcasm, memes, slanted POVs or anything divisive...

The pass plays being called for Gabbert are not as simplistic because he is able to get rid of the ball on time, whereas Kap was really struggling to see open WRs. You won't see this unless you watch the film, but just trust me on this. One thing that is clearly evident is the amount of rollout passes that Kap was getting called for him. These designed rollouts were a way of simplifying his reads to half field progressions. Gabbert gets these called for him about 2-3 times per game. Kap had it called for him about every 4-5 plays.

It seems as though everything in these forum threads is either or. Either this player is terrible or that one is, either the win was deserved or it wasn't, either this or that. It's really tiresome. I'm not sure why people just can't say. "boy, we got lucky there but I sure have to give Gabbert and the offense credit for hanging in and getting it done". Blaine Gabbert doesn't have to be the answer to the 49ers QB position in the future, he doesn't have to be compared to any other QB in the league at this point, not even Kaepernick who is done for the season, all he has to do is lead the team and try and make them competitive for the rest of the year, which it seems to me he is doing, so they have some sort of momentum and clarity about what they need to do next year to get the team back on track. I actually think they are headed in the right direction. I think they are putting together a pretty good young defense and have an opportunity to improve on offense once they get everyone back healthy. They will probably finish high enough in the draft order to have a chance to get an impact player or two, which means the ball is definitely in Baalke's court and it will be time for him to prove he can deliver. Looking forward to the rest of the year and seeing what the team can accomplish in its last few games. Go Niners!
