But in the 49ers case, we lost the superbowl and had the most picks in the draft. Round 1 we take Reid which fits both A) need b) solid player with 1st round grade. However in round 2 we went with an injured DE who we are moving postiions (4-3 in college to 3-4), and a TE who we dont even use. As mentioned above why not take the best player available at that position (Keenan Allen WR), or something where there is no switching positions or injury concerns.
The production we have got this year from the draft class has been terrible. We were in position to move up/down with multiple picks and decided to take picks on injured guys in hopes they will be good in year 2, 3, 4 etc. This team is being built it seems to be somewhat competitve over next few years but not to actually win the Superbowl. TO do that you need to draft impact players when you are close. Not injured players who u hope will be good in a few years.
