OK Phoenix, fine he's a top 15 prospect you say. Then let him take this season off and heal a whole year under the 49ers watch, this way he comes in next season and is ready to produce Cowboy type production. Why prolong his non production meanwhile taking up a roster spot?

Maybe they wanted him to be able to practice, if he can contribute this season great, if he is healthy, there's no reason to keep him on the IR where he can't practice and develop as a player. Its not like there's a bunch of DE's out there for the 49ers to sign, they talked to Seymour, he basically told them to pound rocks, beyond that, you're not going to find someone who is better than Dobbs right now AND has the familiarity with this system.

Insurance!
It's a medical call. Anyone in Crabtree's inner circle should advise him, is it worth it to come back?

Banking on the belief that we'll make the playoffs w/out them... 1 1/2 months of more rehab/practice will be very beneficial (if they're to see the field at all this season).
The 49ers like to "redshirt" draft picks. They don't want to pick players who can help now. Then they wonder why they are shorthanded at certain positions. Sometimes it makes you go who, what when where why how.
Why redshirt draft picks? The Cowgirls drafted that WR Terrance Williams guy in the 3rd round this year and he would lead 49er WRs in stats if he was on our team. How can other teams develop WRs so quickly & smoothly yet the 49ers continue to throw flop after flop out there other than Quan and Crabs when he was healthy. Even the Saints drafted that Kenny Stills WR in the 5th round and he's produced this rookie season for them. WTF is REDSHIRT?? No such thing in the NFL, its called missing on your draft pick. Red Flags anytime I see a rookie being "redshirted". Almost always means the player isn't what the team expected when he was drafted..
I still can't figure out how Terrance Williams went in the third. He led the nation in receiving yards last year in college. Keenan Allen is another, I don't know, shoulda woulda coulda, who knows.

All I know is that he was a moneyball pick that panned out. He has the size, speed and route running and he will be taking over for Miles Austin real soon.
We should use more adderall and deer antler spray TBPH IMHO....
As much as I would like to see the Tank on the field, it probably wont be until next year when he has a good off season program in the books, the same for Dial

You do not draft a Prospect this high in the Draft if he is coming off an ACL injury. And if you do draft him this high, and you knew he wasn't gonna be ready all year, then why not say fk it and put him on IR and sign someone to actually produce on the field.

willis mcgahee disagrees.

first off, yeah we got a problem developing wr's it seems. but lets not act like he would come here and have those numbers. we're a running team, dallas wants to chuck it 50 times per game.

Hated the Tank pick at #40. He doesn't fit this 3-4 system.

we run an awful lots of 4 man fronts aswell.
Kyle Williams tore his ACL again. Probably going to end his career. Thats why these dudes take their time.
I will never understand drafting players in round 1 and 2 with the intention of moving them to another position (4-3 D-line to 3-4 Outside LB). The risk of the player not understanding the new position (learning curve), and possibly just not being very good at the new position is too high. Later round picks i am fine with this.

But in the 49ers case, we lost the superbowl and had the most picks in the draft. Round 1 we take Reid which fits both A) need b) solid player with 1st round grade. However in round 2 we went with an injured DE who we are moving postiions (4-3 in college to 3-4), and a TE who we dont even use. As mentioned above why not take the best player available at that position (Keenan Allen WR), or something where there is no switching positions or injury concerns.

The production we have got this year from the draft class has been terrible. We were in position to move up/down with multiple picks and decided to take picks on injured guys in hopes they will be good in year 2, 3, 4 etc. This team is being built it seems to be somewhat competitve over next few years but not to actually win the Superbowl. TO do that you need to draft impact players when you are close. Not injured players who u hope will be good in a few years.
