Yup, he did for that game. I'm pretty sure Seattle usually does not use Sherman to "shadow" a receiver. Correct me if I'm wrong there. It seemed like they made an exception for that game since Boldin was the only healthy WR capable of doing any damage. Might as well stick your best corner on him and force others to make plays.

VD had hammy issues and Boldin was the only WR of note. Sick Sherman on him then load up vs the run. Well it won't be that easy this time

Definitely. I want to see us actually take advantage of a healthy receiving core. Boldin, Crab, Davis, Manningham, McDonald...ALL these guys can make plays. Get the backs involved in the passing game too. We should have at least 7 different players catch the ball every game.

In a nutshell, yes. Had as much to do w/ Browner being out as anything. Were he available, I doubt Sherm would have followed him.

True. Forgot Browner didn't play. That game is like a distant memory for me. I've blocked it out.

VD's hammy acted up after the 3rd interception.

Yes I forgot that he was blowing a spliff that night

I'm just going to be glad when the game in SF is over and we can all stop predicting what will happen lol.

I foresee a media "flip of the script" after the Niners return the favor and win by 20 at home. All the buzz will be who really does own the NFC West, and the Niners will be the pesky 5th seed that nobody wants to play! They'll push their streak to 5 years in a row of winning at home vs the Seahawks, and the narrative will be the home team wins. Can the Niners go to SEA and win?

Russell Wilson will be contained, but more importantly, their running attack will get stuffed (which was different from last year in SF). The Niners will have a small lead in a defensive battle (13-10 Niners at half). The Niners will score a TD on their first possession of the third quarter, forcing SEA to shift toward the passing game... and immediately intercept Wilson (Reid for his 4th of the season). The Niners will hit a big TD pass on that momentum shift, our "Chunk Play", and in a matter of minutes the score will go from 13-10 to 27-10. After a surrendering a long TD drive to the Seahawks capped by a Russell Wilson rushing TD, the Niners drive and hit a field goal to make it 30-17. Aldon Smith gets a sack and forces a long 3rd down attempt, which fails and forces the Seahawks to go for it on 4th down, coming up short. The Niners then get another bonus time rushing TD (Hunter) when the Seahawks are psychologically devastated and the game is essentially over.

Final score NINERS 37-17.... BOOOM!!!

And once this happened any threat of a big chunk play through the air dissipated. In a low scoring defensive struggle you need any and every game breaker you can get. The defense took away Gore and Boldin was all that was left. There should be plenty for you to chase around this time out

I don't think any smart fan think this game will be easy for the Hawks, but at the same time if anyone thinks the Niners are going to win this game easy they're pretty stupid too.

It's going to be a very fun and competitive game to watch, actually most likely ugly and competitive. I really do wish both teams would be 100% healthy for this match up to really see which team is better at it's complete peak, but looks like it'll never happen.

Correction, VD injured his hammy during the third int., which is why he made no play on the ball. Didn't you just rewatch this game yesterday?

Who wants to make bets VD gets injured this game, not saying I like injuries, just making the observation that I swear every time he plays against us he gets hurt.

We tend to get players injured while playing in SEA at an alarming rate. Here at the Stick we have come out unscathed for the most part

That's fair enough, Amp. He jumped so it's difficult to know if he injured it before that or not but he was visibly grabbing the hammy after he landed.

SEA has a lot of holes in its defense in terms of matchups. The main reason why they and us match up well vs pass-heavy teams is...well...those teams are one-dimensional. They already taken themselves out of half of the threat of their offense.

I just hope the refs watch all the holding and the PI's SEA gets away with.

Considering Sherman will most likely be staying on his own side, this game is on Greg Roman. Will he put his head in his butt and not take advantage of any obvious mismatches (Boldin or Crabs vs DB #2, Vernon vs LB, or Gore running to the side where Vernon will be blocking a Safety). G-Ro better not f**k this one up.

Please, elaborate! I've felt really good about every team that they've played as far as matchups go (minus our o-line injuries of course but those are no longer an issue). Would be interesting to hear details about this.

If we have a weakness, in my mind it's been consistency in run defense but in the 2-3 games in which they gave up BIG yardage it seemed to boil down to mental mistakes rather than matchups. Same in the secondary.
Dear Roman,

Please God run a screen.

Sincerely, Every 49er fan
