How is that even possible? Oh yeah, terrible play from the QB

Which is such a load of crap, because he used a penalty against a defenseless player to justify a hard hit on a player that is in no way defenseless, the QB in the pocket.

Penalty: For unnecessary roughness: Loss of 15 yards. The player may be disqualified if the action is judged by theofficial(s) to be flagrant.
Note: If in doubt about a roughness call or potentially dangerous tactics, the covering official(s) should always call unnecessary roughness.
(b)
Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
(1)
Forcibly hitting the defenseless player's head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him;

WELL, that is totally on Brooks (all his fault)...

Brooks was suppose to wait for Brees to recognize that Brooks was in his circumference OR he should've whispered in Brees' ear "aye bro, I'm right here, can I sack you now... how do you want it, shall I cradle you like a baby or like we're dancing and I'll tilt you... how do you want it princess Brees??!!!"
Still fuming over here... one of the most horses**t call on a game ending play since the failmairy.

I can't believe the NFL is going to have the gal to say it was a good call. Well, maybe i can believe it.
Special teams set us up all day long with great punts a turn over and a long FG, yet the long kick off return and Osgoods gaff at the end over shadowed an overall good performance.

If you are a 49ers player, coach, executive or fan, anger is a reasonable feeling after their 23-20 loss to the Saints.

San Francisco probably needed to beat New Orleans to remain alive to win the NFC West, and the 49ers played very well. They led 20-17 late in the fourth quarter. And when linebacker Ahmad Brooks sacked Drew Brees, forcing a fumble that Patrick Willisrecovered with 3:12 left, it looked like the game was over.

But it's almost impossible to hit the quarterback anymore without drawing a penalty.

Brooks drilled Brees, who never saw Brooks coming. Brooks' right arm hit Brees in the upper chest, with his upper arm on Brees' neck. It was a sack. Brooks couldn't have really hit Brees anywhere else (remember, Brees is pretty short for a quarterback). It was a great play. But the flag came, because the flag always comes these days.

The Saints got possession back on the roughing the passer call, took the 15 yards and got a game-tying field goal. The New Orleans defense got a stop, and the Saints marched down for the game-winning field goal as time expired.

Although Brooks' hit looked clean, former NFL vice president of officiating Mike Pereira said the call was legit.

Pereira obviously knows the rules and has an uncanny accuracy rate on plays like that, but that didn't seem like a penalty. And if it is a penalty by the letter of the law, it really means that defenders shouldn't try to hit the quarterback anymore. There's no place to hit the quarterback anymore without drawing a penalty.

So feel free to be upset, San Francisco. Actually, if you're an NFL fan outside of New Orleans, you might want to be a little peeved. The 49ers were robbed.

Honestly I expected us to get blown out today because of the poor offense and the revenge factor the saints had. For us to hang in I thought was huge! This team will get a wildcard spot and sneak up on teams.

Us hanging in had nothing to do with the offense and everything to do with the defense. If this defense had any help what so ever, they would likely be the #1 ranked defense right now, instead of 6.

I believe every single score today was on defensive turnovers.

Agreed. The D and special teams gave us our points, but I still have faith that our system works. The offense gets a little traction and this team becomes a threat. I'm not saying Super Bowl faves, but no team will be looking forward to seeing this team in the playoffs.

What f**king system? LOL.

I hear you! Tough D, O, and special teams. I think the offense should be tougher. Don't know why they aren't, but I have faith they will be around playoff time.

LET EM PLAY!!!

That's not the right situation to decide the outcome of a game on a non malicious football play because it looked bad. Brooks is huge and Brees is small, of course he is going to look like he gets smashed full speed. Brooks came through with a spectacular play for us which likely would have sealed the game but that god damn mother f**king ref didn't change his tampon that day.

Not upset about this loss. Carolina is the one that bothers me.
LOL, the Bears, Cardinals, and Cowboys are our only competition for the #6 seed, and Carolina has a rough schedule ahead? We may suck, but I doubt we miss the payoffs. -I think if we just win at least 4/6 we're in, and that's doable since Seattle is the only .500+ team left on the schedule.

We'll be the worst team in the playoffs, but anything can happen from there.

Playoffs?
That penalty on Brooks was crazy, but you have to be a homer to really hang the loss on that play. Your offense gets -7 yards in all of the 4th quarter and scored as much as it did mainly because of being set up by turnovers. I'd say a half-competent offense could've made up for the penalty and then some.
