Being a great receiver does not make you a great scout.
can't do any worse.

Sure you can.
Yup, Like Swain, Chad Hall, and Marlon Moore... Oh, Wait....

They were not Niner draft picks.

They were not Niner draft picks.
They are or were on the roster because of the WR's the niners drafted.
A Mod writes a thread about the ineptitude at the WR position and it is well received.

I start a similar thread (http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/174158-bad-scouting-evaluating-wrs/search=doc_brown_), and get sh*t on. Nice!

That's only partially true. They were on the roster also because of injuries.

Well, if you read what I wrote it might all be clearer to you.
Niners front office planned on Crabtree and Boldin with whoever else playing the #3 spot until Manningham returned.

Thats a formidable WR core if it isn't injured.

This offseason in the draft they addressed the other areas you all were complaining about and that is where the money went.

Or would you prefer we didn't actually address what you were whining about?

Great evaluation, but, for the sake of open debate (I'm personally indifferent about the matter), I think a lot of the criticism isn't solely attributed to our ability to draft quality wide receivers, but drafting AND acquiring WRs from free agency as well.

Using a similar timeframe that you supplied -- 2008-2013 -- some the WRs that the 49ers have signed are (sorry at work, can't make a comprehensive list lol):

Anquan Boldin, Chad Hall, Randy Moss, Mario Manningham, Braylon Edwards, Brett Swain, Ted Ginn Jr. (Although he was signed as a return specialist), Brandon Jones, Christopher Francies, Dobson Collins, Michael Spurlock, Bryant Johnson, Dominique Ziegler, and Isaac Bruce.

Decent group, but definitely still a weakness relative to our other positions on both offense and defense.

This is true.

They need to bring a new person just to evaluate WRs because whoever was doing it before aint gotta clue.

LOL. What sus got out of the post is totally the opposite of what English intended.

lol yah I know

but the problem goes back even farther with guys like rashaun woods and derrick Hamilton there was some other dude who was college qb that they tried converting him to wr.

English failed to do proper research on his post.

Then you would have to include TO, Rice and Taylor. So I win again!

But you are forgiven for being wrong.

LOL
Good perspective English.

After the season is over and the evaluations are in I still think we'll need to target 2 WR in the draft.

I can see Trent/JH resigning Boldin, I doubt Crabs because of $$$. Whoever we get, they better be able to get separation. No Hobbits.

Interesting development. Although the original whinge was quite specific about drafting.

I think with FA signings you have to take money into account, and obviously with trades, the cost.

This obviously makes the Boldin deal what we all knew it was, a stunningly good deal.

And maybe if you fancy doing the research into the playerswe could have signed but didn't, you would have an article for Webbie.

But we can draft receivers so happy bunny rabbits.

I can already tell you how his notes will look.

Player Assessment

1) Not as good as Jerry Rice.
