I don't take much out of this. It is likely just tire kicking in case a disaster hits, like CK and Colt were to go down in the first game or two.
Still, it shows that the FO realizes the critical nature of having a backup QB on this team that can win. This team is good but not good enough to win in the playoffs without a quality backup...and I have no illusions that McCoy could beat Atlanta or Seattle in a game that actually means something.

yup, he is better than most backups... I actually think he is the #1 or 2 QB that is not starting with one of the best QBratings. I believe he has a career QB rating in the mid 80s. And he is an 11 year vet.
