I'm hoping we can grab both as one year rentals, and take a big swing at the big dance again ....if not, I'm ok with grooming younger defensive backs...whats your thoughts on these two players ...do you want? ...or should we draft our own players to groom for down the road?
That's what they did with Carlos Rogers. No need to rush and sign someone. I don't believe the secondary is anywhere near as bad as it was in the playoffs. Plus with the cap situation and player contracts coming up, not a good idea to sign larger contracts
I think the issue was up front in the playoffs. The injuries of the Smiths' was the issue. I agree, I think he is waiting for them to make an offer he can't refuse. Its a crude way of working this business, bur Asomugha and Woodson are at the point in their careers where they want to win a ring and that means that we could get them cheaper. The longer they go without a deal the cheaper they get.

No, he was playing poker. Smart, who really wants these old farts besides new fans of the NFL? They see a familiar name and they want them. Not real GM's though. Fake interest so your competitors sign them. If they don't u lose nothing expressing 'interest' anyways.

So this would make Culliver our dime back?? It just makes no sense.

No, I think Brown would be, he's smaller and quicker. Culliver is the biggest CB of the group

That would be just as outrageous. Brown played extremely well last year. And like I said last page,
The bottom line is our top-3 corners are still a really, really good trio of corners. We were amongst the best in the league in fewest passing yards allowed (and it's not like that's because teams just wanted to run the ball on us all day like why the Jets have a good ranking there) and only Pittsburgh allowed fewer yards/attempt. You don't do that with sucky corners. We could have played better in certain spots in the postseason, but let's also remember that not only were we playing some incredibly dynamic pass offenses in the playoffs as well, we were doing it with the Smiths (arguably the 2 most valuable players on the team and certainly the 2 most vital members of our pass defense) severely limited.

I think Brown probably matches up best in the group with Harvin. You don't need size for Harvin. You need quickness. I don't think Rodgers is quick enough to be working the slot anymore.

I'm guessing if Nnamdi comes in, clearly, we are looking for taller, more physical, even intimidating CB's in-line with Seattle. Right now, the only player we have is Culliver but we saw how he got abused on penalties and in play. So, my guess would be Nnamdi would move to RCB and Rogers (NOT RODGERS) would slide inside to the slot.
Another route could be Culliver competing with Brown as well and go bigger, stronger, more physical with Culliver and Nnamdi with Brown in the slot and Rogers' half-assing it butt restructuring his contract to stay with us on the bench (although we'd only save 1M in cap space and take a big hit on dead money).

totally agree ....Brock and Cox also are decent slot CB's ...but "decent" wont get us back to the superbowl , adding some more speed at CB with younger players with a lot of upside left should be a priority, and we have the ammo to find quality depth

I understand the wait for Asomugha, but what about Woodson? Are we not going to sign him period or are we just waiting to see what Nnamdi will do? Damn I feel like these guys are holding us back from making other moves.

I don't think we're going to sign either.
Take it to the bank and borrow off it at 3.4 APR

Agreed. I think they've moved on from both of them.

The draft is so deep with defensive talent, it's hard to know what they're going to do. They could be waiting to see what they have a better chance at accomplishing there before they commit to Asomugha. If they draft a real quick player for slot corner to guard guys like Harvin (there are three or four who could probably do it), they may decide to sign Asomugha as strictly an outside press guy - that's what he does best. If they draft a taller cover corner, they could move Brown to the slot and not sign Asomugha. I like that they're taking their time. And, if they miss out on Asomugha, whatever. He's definitely a gamble.
