Why don't we ever blitz?

We hardly get any pressure on the QB and when we do we can never wrap up the QB for the sack. It's obvious that our front 4 isn't getting the job done so why not send the heat every now and then?

we sent the house on the play that Ponder got his TE in the end zone. strategy backfired, because we couldn't maintain coverage on the back end during the blitz

This. Our front line (defense) usually generate enough penetration that we don't usually need the blitz.

You know who was on him? Aldon. I've noticed that Aldon sometimes has trouble trying to keep up with TE's and RB's coming out of the backfield. Maybe its me, but I think he excels at pass rushing because he's strong and can bull rush anyone and once he gets to the QB he uses his length to get to the QB and wrap him up. When you seem him running down QB's, RB's, and/or TE's it just seems like they are just faster than he is.

I am glad we don't do it often. Our secondary would get torched even more than they do now.

Also, how come its always the 49ers fault, I mean the Vikings O-Line gets zero credit for doing exactly what they did to us in pre-season when the starters were on the field? Not to mention that Ponders run for a TD was a f**kin fluke, and so were some of his throws including the TD to Rudolph where he was falling

Exactly why we don't do it. If our pass rush had that intensity it had last year, we wouldn't even need to blitz.
Lets just hope Soap isn't gone for too long.

We´ll have to live with the fact that our sacknumbers will go down. We have TWO strating caliber OLBs, and one on the bench who was initally cut.

Blitzing is a desperation move, if you can't get pressure with your front four then you blitz. Generally when you do blitz, your coverages suffer as a result.

I'd like to see Goldson or Whitner flying after the QB every so often
when our O-Line is not getting any push (like on sunday) we should at least throw an extra blitzer at the QB , Ponder had WAY too much time in the pocket on a few plays, hell we didnt sack him ONCE , and when you give any NFL QB that much time , he will eventually find an open receiver that will get YAC
personally I dont want our defense to panic , but sunday was the worst performance by our team since Harbaugh took over
and the next time we are not getting any pressure with 4 lineman, then maybe we should overload one side and bring more blitzers than they can handle
I'm not saying make it a staple of our defense , but at least consider looking into using some creative blitz packages when the QB has all the time in the world

Whitner had great coverage. Offensive PI should have been called. Ponder made a horrible throw and got lucky
