I wonder if there is anything CK could do in preseason that would win him the starting job? I doubt it. When a team is this talented, you have to go with the reliable vet. Smiths playoff experience has to count for something this year. The only way Kaep starts is if Smith goes full tard (which he wont) or there is an injury (much more likely).

...Actually pretty excited to see what he has t.b.c.h. I first noticed him in college when he first came to Utah and nearly beat us single handedly. Watched him quite a bit after that. Right now I'm just really not sure where he's at in his developmental stage. Will be figuring that out on Fri. Also be nice to see where Johnson and Tolzien are at as well. Don't really know much about any of our back-ups at this stage. All three should be looking to come out and play their best football.

I was surprised that Kilgore who has some obvious skills as a guard was not considered highly for the RG position. We learned that he was having problems blocking guys like Justin and Ray and Sopoaga. We can see why guys like Boone and Leonard Davis are preferred. IMO against certain teams Kilgore might be the best option but against the niners D not so. I do think Kilgore, Looney, Person and Slowey give us some very good depth. I think one major factor in goal line runs that fail is we lack a bulldozer at center and both Slowey and Looney seem like prime candidates for the future.

Its just pre season. And he was a rookie.

He didn't do much worse then the 7 year veteran Alex Smith's QBR of 48 last pre season.
