Not worry about Walker. Harbaugh will need him. He and Roman like to have balance, variety, and diversity on offense. Multiple formations and personnel packages and groupings. Keep the defense thinking about all those possibilities. Watch out NFL -- Harbaugh and his boys are coming at you at all angles!
I like Delanie, but he's always hurt and his hands are iffy. If he continues to battles injuries into camp, I wouldn't be mad to see Rueland take his roster spot. I don't see Delanie getting resigned so making the move soon wouldn't surprise me.
I suspect Walker will Walk when his contract is up. Can never be #1 here and he will be in for a pay raise and we have cheaper guys who might be able to do what he does.
Delanie is the ideal H back. There weren't a lot of opportunities for him last year. Its incredible that people here would rather see an unproven guy they know nothing about take his spot

You are right that the kid hasn't proven it in a reg season game, but I am going by what the coaches have been saying about the kid since last year to this and the preseason games. Catches everything. A lot of people complained of the pass catchers having not so good hands, so if he is as advertised by the coaches, wouldn't it be in Alex's best interest to have a security blanket he can depend and go to? DW Opportunities? according to MM article he was in there a lot. May not have been thrown to a lot, but that may be because he didn't get open. Ru is a bigger target and not only that DW has not been the same and is getting injury prone (maybe because he is getting older). All I am saying, is don't be hung up on the past, 19 catches is not all that much.
Walker is a great blocker, catcher and has speed, he makes for good mismatches.

Bruce miller was unproven. Delanie's pass production is easily replaceable. His blocking is even easier to replace.

Its All about his production. 200 yards is easy to replace with even a blocking first TE.

I dont think Walker should even be in the conversation, he a great player and wont get cut, though I could see a trade
since we will likely lose him after this season, but were making a SB run, so keep him.

The battle is Reuland vs Byham
Reuland is a much better reciever, Byham is better blocker, but his injury is slow to heal
I have a feeling they PuP or IR Byham just to protect him, and Reuland makes it as the 3rd TE.

The Dobbs factor is interesting, Ive read he was a very good TE in high school
This may allow the Niners to have only Davis and Walker game day active, with Dobbs able to play 3rd TE as needed

Its not all about production for every player on the roster. He is a multidimensional threat and that is extremely valuable, which is why the 49ers have already extended him once. If he got more chances to produce his production would be higher, he's just stuck behind the leagues best tight end in an offense that doesn't throw a lot of passes. I would be interested to hear what the average 2nd TE does production wise in the NFL

We threw the 2nd least amount of passes in the entire NFL last year trailing only Denver by less than 10 attempts and that was mostly because of scheme. On his production, he turned those 19 measly receptions into 3 touchdowns. Thats a pretty good touchdown/reception ratio compared to Crabtree's 4 touchdowns in 72 receptions and Vernon Davis's 6 in 67 receptions. Not to mention that we were a much more functional offense when he was on the field whether he had the ball in his hand or not. All I'm saying is don't get to caught up in the numbers when he plays a role on the team that is not going to put up big numbers.
