Looks like LMJ will have little part in the 49ers offense this year, barring an injury to Gore/Hyde. Now he's not even the primary kick returner. I think he could be a good weapon with his speed, but he seems to never get any good blocking when they call his number. Not much you can do when you get bottled up behind the LOS.

This. Always terrible blocking when he runs

Maybe I'm biased because I've seen him make so many plays at Oregon. Just about every game it seems he'd break one for a long TD. And his yards per carry is actually pretty good in his NFL career. The dude is a track athlete and a tougher runner than he gets credit for.

So they'll have a designed swing pass to Miller out in the flat but not LMJ? Not even one jet sweep for Ellington? Oh well, not going to squawk too much other than to say even though they did have some terrible penalties called against them, was still a definite change in tempo from 1st to 2nd, when they were looking a little sluggish thought that might be a good time to give LMJ or Ellington a chance to do something. At least Hyde gave them some energy, he's fun to watch. Good win on the road to start the season.

I remember him at Oregon because I was rooting against him for Stanford when I usually saw him lol. I don't think LaMichael James is by any means a great back, but I do believe they can get more creative in how they use him and give him more opportunities to do something with the ball. About 5 touches a game whether they are runs (off tackle, inside, sweeps, reverses, etc) or passes (screens, lined up in the slot, or as a back coming out of the backfield at the snap) would be sufficient.

This. That kind of pass is ok when you need a few yards to pick up a first down or simply viewing it as a long hand off, but James can potentially get a lot more than a few yards on a play like that.

No one wants to root against the guy, but he just isn't cutting it as a backup RB or a kick returner. Once Lattimore or Hunter gets healthy, he should be gone. Just doesn't look comfortable or confident doing anything at the NFL level.
