agree. Yorks dun goofed

The Yorks are like that guy that falls in love with every girl he ever dates.

agreed, jed shouldve waited after the next season to see how baalke hit on this draft and his fa resignings and signings. but even after 1 yr i have faith in baalke but im not the one signing his checks, lets just hope baalke pushes the right buttons again

Gotta disagree... for a franchise thats had a turnstyle at head coach, GM, and a previous president that severly hurt the 9er faithful... This move is showing the franchise wants to lock up everyone that has contributed to its recent success. Baalke ran/co-ran w/ dingleberry two drafts and only 3 names from those drafts arent on the roster are RoJo, Mays, and Phillip Adams. Adams(6th ot 7th round) actually salvaged some of NE's horrible secondary, and RoJo was recomended from the WR coach, leaving the only big mistake being Mays... but lets not go into that controversy. IMO the UDFA's he has brought in outshine his mistakes with the potential they have shown so far.

Contracts always have a buyout clause, these move are more to generate buzz/hype about the franchise's first success since 2003. If Baalke for some reason flames out, he will be fired through a buyout regardless of when his contract ends.

I think the timing makes sense. After the NFL draft, he'll be scouting out the 2013 class, which would be the class that would enter in his last contract under the 49ers. Stability in coaching and management are paramount, you don't want Baalke looking ahead to thinking whether or not he'll be with the team.

Thank You! I think it's a subtle power structure move giving Trent a deal that locks him in for a year beyond Harbaugh's deal and let's all of the player agents know the GM is on extremely solid footing here.

The real question is : Is he making more than Harbaugh ???? The man with the higher paycheck has the real power.

@JedYork was 49ers president and CEO. Now, he's CEO and @GideonYu is president and co-owner. He's responsible for business side of 49ers.

GM Trent Baalke will continue to lead all 49ers football operations. Both Baalke and @GideonYu will report to @JedYork.

Adams was decent, just injury prone is why he was cut. RoJo was a bust, but a 6th rd pick, so no biggie, but Mays hurt, we could have had Morgan Burnett or Javier Arenas(who went right after Mays). Stupid Singletary.

So whats the difference between what Jed will be doing and what Yu will be doing? Doesnt the CEO run the business side too? If not what exactly will he run if its not the business side or football operations? Is Yu higher up than Jed now since he is not "technically" the owner?

I confused....

Two different sides of the business, York will be the face of the front office and will be involved in networking/shareholder continuation aspect, while Yu handles the behind the scenes details and numbers. My guess is Yu's responsibilities reflect more of a CFO/CEO hybrid role focused on the numbers, while Jed focuses on building and maintaining relationships for funding/sponsorships.

Lets see....

After going 13-3 Baalke was going to get 2 more seasons as GM and that's if he bombed badly the next 2 years. that means through the 2013 season minimum. However with Harbaugh and his staff apparently remaining in tact, it's unlikely the personnel moves could be bad enough to only warrant a few seasons, so in all likely hood they extended the guy for about as long as he's likely to be with us regardless of what happens in the immediate future.

So you gamble that Baalke is the guy that you thought he was when you hired him. The guy he proved himself to be the 1st year on the job. You know he's the guy your coach likes, and he's likely to agree to less money when he feels like he's being rewarded than he would if he felt like he had to get his. Really it's no different than how we do players which is always applauded, mostly.

Instead of jumping to the critical angle, maybe give the situation some thought and realize it's better to have a happy house than a tumultuous one.

Fabulous news and I feel we are moving into dynasty territory. Not there yet BUT we'll win the big one next year and for years to come.
