What is the Wiser Use of Cap Space On Defense

Who says a four man line would make things easier for our linebackers? A defensive line's responsibilities in a 3-4 are different from a line's responsibilities in a 4-3. Like I said, we could probably make it work, because we have great players and a great coaching staff.... but switching to a 4-3 means taking a front 7 that was already elite and changing it, with the risk that it won't work. It's NOT a foolproof idea. When teams switch from one base defense to another, you're going to see a lot of blown assignments in the running game. We have a defense that's ready for the big-time. Why fix it if it ain't broke?

Exactly. Making a major schematic change to the leagues best defense seems like a little bit of an overreaction. If it ain't broke

It's just a momentary and hypothetical fantasyland.

... and there is very little difference in running a 1-gap 3-4 scheme vs a 4-3 scheme. We are talking slight gap adjustments and keys.

My God, some of you are just so protective of your precious 3-4 scheme. I keep saying I think our front 7 is headed for a better fit, and I have no doubt Fangio can apply the scheme just fine.
