In the end you either turn up to get paid or you play the game to be the best. Sometimes. With some teams......you can't have both.

I think with time people forget about the abilities of the great players. Its just too easy to say he was a great player and not actually think what it took game in and game out to become great. Ronnie Lott is without question the greatest defender the 49ers ever had. You could argue he is the greatest pure defender in Canton.
Goldson is a player who underachieved and is now blossoming. I hope he finds common sense from somewhere and realises that wealth is secondary to winning.
Easy for you to say when it's not you're money

Ya you do know Tom Brady is like third highest paid player in the league right? I don't get you're comparison.
Do you really think the WORLD would remember Goldson less if he went to somewhere else for more money next year.

Larry Kreuger had Ronnie Lott on KNBR this morning. It was a good interview until Larry had the nerve to ask Ronnie...
"Hey Ronnie, we're going to be running a trivia question for some free 49er tickets. Which finger was it that you had cut off?"
Ronnie responded by deflecting the question two times, slightly less amused each time. Larry Kreuger fail. lol.

He is extremely athletic on some of the plays he makes and hits hard. I love having this guy on D and I hope he doesn't get suspended this week because our D is not the same without him. Just wondering what you think? Too far fetched? I say pay the man!!!!
he is so phenomenal that not a single team was interested in his services when he was a FA and he had to come back to the team that he publicly tweeted that he'd not play for again.

Yes Brady is now. But was the one of the highest paid when they won their rings? No. Did he leave for money? No. He stayed to be part of a franchise that was winning.
You are not seeing my point. People wont be remember Goldson at all if his greed wins out. People remember Lott because he won on a team full of winners and achieved greatness that shadowed his bank balance.

Say what you will but I really would like to keep Goldson for a few years. If we could have the best linebackers in the league and a top Safety for a few years, list time I checked that worked out pretty well for Baltimore for the last 6-7 years.

Goldson has to stop the stupid on-field demonstrations -- classless compared to Lott. Getting a penalty yesterday on a simple interception was LAME. And he is going to get called for taunting at some point if he keeps standing over players and flexing after big hits.
That is the type of personality that makes him crave the big contract over team -- so I bet he will leave the 49ers. JH and Baalke won't pay big money to that type of personality.

The penalty wasn't Goldson's fault. It was the two bone heads that came up and celebrated with him. You are not allowed to celebrate with more than 2 people on the field.

Im not sure why everyone hates on Dashon, or why everyone tries to compare current players to old school 49ers. 49ers fans are the worse fans that dwell on old school players. There's never gonna be another Lott, or Joe, or Rice thats why they're HOFers. As far as Dashon goes I think he's tough as nails and I would only want about 5 other safties in the NFL other then him.

Goldson and Rogers should be our #1 proprieties in the off-season....heck RIGHT NOW! They have been our most consistent players.
both have 1 year deals. We cannot be cheap regarding these players....They are the most important at their positions, imo.
Justin Smith - Dline
Patrick Willis - LBs
Carlos Rogers - CBs
Dashon Goldson - Safeties
I would not like this list to be replaced with the names of Reggie Smith and Terrell Brown next year.

Reggie will be gone and Brown might be as well. Very heavy DB draft if I was in charge.

Rogers will definitely be back, but I'm convinced Goldson will go wherever the money is, and that won't be here.

we should franchise Goldson. Of all the guys who are one year deals, he is not only the most likely to leave but also will have one of the cheapest franchise tenders. 6 million I think?
