Goldson is a very good player and still underrated by the WZ and 49ers fans in general IMO. But he's not as fast as Ronnie Lott was. What Goldson does well is be very instinctive and he is a very hard hitter who doesn't shy away from impact. He changes our secondary when he is in. Remember how bad our secondary was at the beginning of the year without him? Yet we still have some guys saying "we don't need Goldson" next offseason in FA....
"He is easily replaceable."...
Goldson is somebody we SHOULD resign. We will have to pay him. But our defense drop off without him in a big way IMO.

Unless he can play ALL DB positions at a Pro-bowl level; I doubt it very highly.

No! Goldson doesn't even come close to the coverage skills that Lott had. Remember Lott wasn't always a safety. He played his first 4 years in the NFL as CB. Ronnie not only was the hardest hitter in the NFL but was shutdown corner too. He was also more versatile. Not only did he play all DB postions, CB, FS as well as SS, but he earned all-pro honors at all 3 postions, On top of that he created mad turnovers with 63 for his carrer and lead the league twice. Not to mention his 10 probowl, 6 first team all-pro, and HOF selections. As much as I love Goldson and his hard hitting play, he should not be mentioned in the same discussion with Lott. Let Goldson get at least on probowl selection before we start anoiting him the next Ronnie Lott. Everytime there is a new hard hitting safety in the NFL everyone wants to call him the next Lott, but there was only one Ronnie Lott (my favorite Niner of all time and my boyhood idol) and there will never be another one!

Been a fan for 27 years out of 31 of my life no reason to go there and I assumed people would take it in different ways. Is he the legend that is Ronnie Lott? No. Does he remind me of him at times? yes. Is he extremely important to what we do on Defense and helping to shut down some of the best WRs and RBs we face? I think absolutely, yes.

There will never be another #42 ...he was a unique and special player, plus a great team leader, I'm thankful we had him on our team during his prime years, it still saddens me that we parted ways with him

if he's intent on testing FA and driving his price up, I think we should franchise him.

Goldson is like Ronnie Lott, except less athletic, with less coverage ability, with his head shoved straight up his ass. Other than that, yes, he is our next Ronnie Lott.
