Goldson is no way near the player that Jack Tatum--The Assassin, a three time pro bowler.

I really wish people wouldn't make comparisons like this, and force me into picking a side against a 9er I really like. Goldson is very good player and I've loved watching him the last few years. So please don't make me write negative things about him in order to explain why he's not the same as the greatest defensive player we've ever had.

Realistic comparison. A bit off topic but Lott would pay his salary back in penalties for hitting. Good-doll has took all the fun out of defense.

FACT - Ronnie Lott is the only person both Chuck Norris and Patrick Willis fear. Goldson is not part of this conversation.

All good. He's not Lott but hey who doesn't love the guy, it's good to be fired up about Goldson!

Hate the stupid move of reacting and getting tossed and penalized. It didn't hurt much but he needs to be smarter and under control. Wait and hit the guy on a route.
As for being Lott...nott! Lot was an all-pro CB and then an all world safety. Smart and courageous at the same time. Goldson has been playing pretty well lately and you can't really compare Lott's era to now given rule changes. So you have to compare how they fit in with their peers--has Goldson made the probowl? Is he likely to do so?

With absolutely no disrespect for Goldson, the answer is a resoudning NO. Lott was much more than an enforcer in the secondary. He was the leader of the entire team. Lott is far and away the greatest defensive back to ever play for the Niners. Goldson is not.

Hes no Lott but I think he is way better than some give him credit for. I liked him since his first pre season game against the raiders in his rookie year. He has good hands, speed, and a fearless tackler. Most safeties in the NFL duck and hide when big RBs come there way but he not only takes them on he usually puts them out of action.

That was Ronnie Lott.

yes!!!!
well stated.
