Could Dashon Goldson be our next Ronnie Lott?

I know Goldson lost his cool but it's hard to be hit like he was and not retaliate. I would be surprised if Goldson and Douchebag-set come out of this with equal fines.

Goldson is not even close to Lott in his coverage skills or his play recognition. Lott was instinctual about those things right from the start of his rookie year when he was made a starter in training camp.

Also, don't confuse Goldson's hits with Lotts. Goldson just drives in with his shoulder. While Lott would do that on occasion, he would normally wrap you up and plant you in the turf. Goldson has been better this year than in the past but he still has a tendency to forget about wrapping up the ball carrier.

As good as Lott?

We wish.
I think the closest safety to Ronnie lott is Eric Berry from the chiefs.
Its too bad he got hurt for the year. He came in day 1 and dominated.

GTFO!!!!!!!!
He's not half the safety Lott is and never will be. Sorry, but Lott was the unquestioned Leader of that defense for a long time...hardest hitter, outstanding tackler, SMART in coverage and was a bigtime game-changer. Goldson has played very well at times, and at other times not so much...not even in the same league as Lott but still the best we've got right now which is what we need to keep winning.
He doesnt have the discipline.

he was getting beaten early in his rookie year, he dominated down the stretch
Lott was #11 on the NFL's 100 best players. Goldson would not get near that list
This organization is full of great players. That being said we need to stop labeling people "THE NEXT". There will never be another Jerry Rice. There will never be another Ronnie Lott. Let Dashon be what he is, a very good safety not a future legend/HOF. Please stop comparing these guys to legends of the past. It's time to live in the now, and look forward to the future.
And Moran Norris is the next Tom Rathman.
Goldson maybe more like Jack Tatum then Lott. Which is no disgrace.

Yeah good post. Aldon is not the next demarcus ware, he's aldon. The last time we mentioned Lott and said someone was the "next lott" was taylor mays and look how that turned out. There are exceptions, like frank gore has pretty much secured himself as the best runningback in niner history. But even then, it's a disgrace to what individual talents frank gore brings to say he's like joe perry or roger craig or something. Every player brings a little something that other players, even the greats, don't bring.

Goldson right now is a pretty good safety, but he's still not up there with Polamalu or ed Reed and the other top 5 safeties of the league. Until he gets up there as far as being a game changer, we can't even consider him in the same sentence as one of the top 100 players EVER. The polamalu's and reeds may get there if they stay consistent but goldson isn't near there yet.

Yes I know Lott is a legend but Goldson is an enforcer and I think WRs better start accounting for where this guy is on the field. He is extremely athletic on some of the plays he makes and hits hard. I love having this guy on D and I hope he doesn't get suspended this week because our D is not the same without him. Just wondering what you think? Too far fetched? I say pay the man!!!!

I am going to assume you have never actually seen Lott play, and have only heard some stories.
