They are 1st, and we're 2nd

Best front 7 in football. Likely the best overall defense.

Cowboys are up there, as well as Baltimore and still Pittsburgh. But yeah, the niners are definitely in the mix

Cowboys!?!?! Ahahahaha! Baltimore is the only one in our league and pitt. (when healty)

The Bengals have to be included as well. 4th against the pass, and 5th against the run, 1st in total yards allowed...also 4th in points allowed.

I would say that only the Ravens have a better defense than us, with the Cowboys, Bengals, and Steelers right behind us

and we play all 3 of them. If we can continue to play tough and win with our schedule, we will be well-tested heading into the post season. That said, I dont care about the media ranking us, breaking us down, talking good or bad about us. I just want us to continue to gel and get better.....Because no body has it better than OUR Niners!!!!!
Great breakdown video analysis. I was wondering why it was on PHI website but figured this was done before they played earlier this year.
Kick him in the shins
Now the DBs are picking up their games and we should see more sacks. If the backs can buy the line 1-1.5 seconds more then both Smiths and Brooks should get more sacks.
Its great to see the D getting its long deserved accolades from the media. Love this defense and Fangio at the reigns as we have a chance to be SPECIAL this year!

Cosell gives some pretty good input when he's being unbiased, he bashes Alex on a consistent basis tho which is understandable with Alex's track record the past 7 years, i just think he needs to give credit where credit is due instead of just bashing him even when he's playing well lol, other than that he's a pretty good read.

I don't think he is "bashing" Smith. Cosell has been watching film for years and gives his unbiased analysis. He isn't thrilled from what he sees out of Smith on film, and he is right about the way JH gameplans with him. As Cosell says, that's called coaching and is the reason JH is the first coach to have success with Smith.

He views Smith's success as a direct result of play design where the reads are easy and the design and timing of the call always gets the receivers open. Smith has made a few plays on his own but not enough yet to be talked about as a QB who can "carry a team."
If Alex manages to win a couple playoff games, suddenly the talking heads will start saying that they "always knew" he had it in him, and it just took the right coach to bring it out. (Or conversely, 6 years of the 'wrong coach' is what held it down)

Bill Walsh used to scout players by looking at their 10 best plays, then coaching them up to perform at that level consistently. Harbaugh is doing the same thing with Alex Smith. Alex is capable of making spectacular plays, but it not yet making those plays consistently. To date, we haven't known what Alex can do, because coaching has been so inept.

In terms of competent coaching, Alex Smith is 6 years behind Aaron Rodgers, 11 years behind Tom Brady, and 13 years behind Peyton Manning.

i really thought that in 2006, on a talent-starved team (besides Gore and a rookie named vernon davis) alex performed about as well as you can hope for a VERY YOUNG, 2nd year pro who was still transitioning from the utah offense, then the WCO of McCarthy. He played ok at that point. He was faaaaar from "lights out" but considering how young he was and how much the team around him sucked... i liked his progress that year, even tho he was inconsistent. we all know the rest of the story...
nice breakdown. maybe the d wil carry us through. i think so.
Isaac (and RJF when necessary) have played pretty well, but we are a top-flight space-eating NT away from having a perfect front 7.
How come we dont have cheerleader profiles?

Cowboys run d is skewed cuz everyone can pass on them...lemme put it this way the cowboys run d is like how our defenses used to rank against the run about 7-8 years ago...its not that they are stout against the run its that teams are more effective passing on thier secondary. Couple that with the fact that thier offense puts them in shootouts and it leads to more passing situations for the other team. All im saying is thier run d may be staticially ranked 1 but if watch a game u'd see they are not the best team against the run,
