Neither Gore nor Boldin have said they're ready to retire. They're on the other side of 30 but they're still productive in our system.
We don't have just 1 wide receiver (Johnson), we have several, and the corps is more talented than it was last year.
Bowman didn't retire either, he's hurt and will return at mid-season, just like Aldon Smith, and, Yes, I think they're talented enough to make a significant positive impact the first game they play.
You're right...Glen Dorsey unfortunately is out. Fortunately, we have Ian Williams back, a talented NT that's chomping at the bit to make up for lost time.
Reid and Ward are two young studs on the secondary that make me feel at least as good about the unit as I did last year.
Our pass rush didn't disappear; Aldon is coming back, Brooks is still here and if Lynch can keep his head on straight, he's gonna be a beast.

It's not about homerism or not being realistic, it's about not going along with The Sky Is Falling! mentality that the media loves to create in order to be dramatic.
In the end, you have your opinion and I have mine.
We have some issues, I get it. But every team in this league will deal with similar issues at some point during the season.

Question is-will these teams be talented enough, deep enough, mature enough, well coached enough to weather the storm? As far as the Niners go, I think the answer is Yes.

This is what I wanted to say but did not take the time to say it.... in response the specific post that you are responding to.

No need to apologize "Niner fan." You're entitled to your opinion. Just remember, it's only an opinion. Here's another opinion: the Cards lost two of their best run stoppers and pass rushers, the Rams lost their starting QB, Seattle has a lot less depth on defense and the Niners added heavy depth on the D line, the deepest receiving corps they have had in years and new running back who looks like the real deal.

So, I don't agree with your opinion.

And your non agreement means nothing. Being a "niner fan" doesn't mean I have to be blind to the rest of the division or league.

Well, to be fair, it actually does mean something. It means that I don't agree with you, "Niner fan." That is unless you are of the opinion that only your opinion counts. Niner fans can disagree with "Niner fans."
The offense will have to carry them through the Bye week. I think they can afford to lose a couple of games, but it's going to be tough playing at Arizona and at the Broncos. If they can come out 5-2 (I think there are 7 games), then they may have a chance especially since they'll be getting some of their people back.

The main thing is that no one else leaves and they remain relatively healthy. An injury to a couple of key players and the season is over.

With that in mind, Seattle doesn't have a lock on the division. Remember ... they're the champions and EVERYONE is gunning for them!

If I have the niners winning the Super Bowl next year, how is the sky falling?

I swear, if people don't agree on this site, they resort to questioning their fan status or think the opinions come from the media. I, unlike many of those in the media, do not think this is an all or nothing year. I think we will continue to be contenders for as long as JH is the coach.

We all want the niners to win. But REALISTICALLY, we took too big a hit to make the Super Bowl out expectations, when we are going to be in serious jeopardy of even making the playoffs. REALISTICALLY, we're in the toughest division in the NFL, which means, even if we take 3rd and miss the playoffs, we can still be a contender for the next decade. AZ just missed the playoffs with a record better than 90% of teams in the NFL. Does that mean they're not a contender because they took 3rd in the division last year?

Look at it with objectivity for once. Not just you, everyone.

No. Just the fact you label me a "niner fan" and you a niner fan without the quotes immediately negates your opinion. Get over yourself.

Perhaps the mods should do something about people like you who alienate others on this site.

All we know at this point is that Seattle is still good but, at the same time, still beatable. Everything else is just conjecture. Arizona has lost a couple of key pieces on their defensive front. They're still looking pretty weak on the offensive line and we already know Palmer has feet of clay. But they don't really have anyone who should be hard for Willis and Wilhoite to deal with in Bowman's absence. The Rams have one of the best D-lines in the league, so they'll be tough, but they've lost their starting QB. We'll know a lot about the Niners secondary by the time they face the Broncos.

In a way, you have to say that what Dungy said is not that outrageous. When you look at the first half of the season, the Cowboys are one of the teams the Niners really should beat and if they can't beat them, all bets are off.

Have I touched a nerve? Why don't you have yourself a good cry and get over it.

Sorry, but we're the only team in the division to get worse in the offseason.

Dockett, Dansby, Washington??? Not to mention Carson palmer is still there and yet they're going to finish ahead of the Niners

THANK YOU

lmao, no one mentions how the cardinals lost 3 huge pieces to their defense. oh and they still have carson palmer who is f**king terrible.

Ah, yes. Throw out some more insults. That will help.

Carson Palmer threw for more yards than any QB over the last half of the season in his first year in Arians offense...

And their defense is still pretty stout... With one of the best defensive backfields in the game...

Yes! And his 83.9 QB rating for last season was good enough for 20th place among starters! To be fair, though, he didn't throw the most interceptions. His 22 was only good enough to tie him with Joe Flacco for second place to Eli Manning for the most interceptions thrown last season.

Awesome performance! Niner fans should be afraid; very afraid.
Although I think coach Dungy is a good man ,sometimes I think he is clueless and gets caught up in his media job. While he was expressing our possible demise to Rodney Harrison , Rodney got sort of altitudinal with Dungy and stated he still strongly felt we were contenders in his opinion. When Rodney speaks, nothing but truth comes out of his mouth.....that dude does not play the media game and I respect Rodney as a former player who knows what he see's . We may not win the division but then again I got a feeling some magic is coming our way.....just a hunch .

You know nothing about me. Keep insulting me, however. Pure class. Everyone else in here is having a discussion and you've done nothing but insult. I'm so glad I'm a "Niner fan" and not a Niner fan.
