Well I care because I am a 49er fan... And I want the team that follow to be "above reproach". Why would I want anything else? If I owned a company, I would want the company to have an impeccable reputation. The same applies for the team I follow.

I've been a 49er fan for nearly 40 years...I couldn't care less how the team is perceived by others, has zero effect on real life, at least for me. It's football. I've still got a job to do, mortgage to pay, kids to feed, etc...that doesn't change regardless of whether the 49ers are perceived by others to have an impeccable reputation.

Agree. I recall the first year JH was our coach, the NFL network were predicting how teams would finish. Warren Sapp predicted we'd finish 2-14 that year because new coach etc etc. We went on I believe to a 13-3 record that year. Conclusion......almost all the TV heads have no clue how a team will do each year. It's fun to see predictions, but really they are meaningless. I don't mind being under the radar anyways........I just want to win and prove the doubters wrong again!!

There should be NO reason to lose against the Cowboys

This. I can understand the perceived weakness of our team going into the season given the suspension to Aldon, overall legal issues. But what I don't understand is how the media portrays the team having "lost" Carlos Rogers... we didn't want him back! The guy came up small in the biggest game of the year in each of the last three years, yet we're somehow worse without him? I was glad when he got cut.

ITS THE QUEST 4 SIX
Everyone has written us off this year, I hope the team is aware of this...
Guys, I'm sorta embracing this underdog role.

Gotta admit, 2011 season was the best 49er regular season I've ever watched and would have been best all time by a mile had we won it all (was just a baby during '81 which will always be the greatest season ever). When we went to the SB in 2012 it was a great feeling, BUT the underdog aspect wasn't there anywhere as much, so I didn't revel in winning the NFC Championship as much as beating the Saints in the playoffs in the year before....no joke.

Same deal last year, although had we beaten Seattle after our adversity it would have been good.

Now, it looks like we are being viewed like the late 2011/early 2012 49er teams....."very good, but can they _________?", largely due to our QB. And strangely, that same issue is rearing its head again in the media and amongst fans. Fans of other teams openly tell me "I don't know about Kaepernick", others even talk smack. It's very annoying and I can't wait to smash teams.

I'm looking forward to hating every team on this schedule this year with a ferocious passion, except KC who I want to defeat in a big shootout just so our older son won't be demoralized and feel responsible.

Normally the hate was reserved for good teams, but now teams like San Diego and even Oakland are not safe.

wow Rodney Harrison do you even keep with football during the offseason. "49ers have been decimated by injuries" really? I would've bought suspensions and free agency but injuries? Really?

Only the real Niner fans know the real depth we have on this team. Let all these so called "analyst" write us off

That's basically what it comes down to.

A few years ago, my Cowboy fan friend said, "You lost Takeo Spikes." I said, "Yeah, but Bowman is going to be better." "What? Who? Spikes was really good."

This year it's the same crap. Just more of it.
"You lost Dorsey." "Yeah but Williams is better."
"You lost Bowman." "You're right, but Wilhoite and Borland will be good enough for now."
"You lost Aldon." "You're right, but Lemonier is just slightly below him with pass rush production." "Lemonwhat?"
"You lost your CB's" "Yes, but we have last years best cornerback with Brock, and our statistically best corner from two years ago with Culliver."

We have six WR's, instead of one. SIX. Not just one. Big difference.
We have more depth on the OL.
We have more depth on the DL.
We have more depth at OLB.
We are better at RB too.
And McDonald is not a rookie at TE.

Look, we get it. They don't like us. We are the team with the cool kid at quarterback and the superstar head coach. We were the dynasty of dynasties in the 80's and 90's, and now we're back. I can't blame them for not liking us.
But their yearly talk of our demise, each and every season, is only proving to make them look foolish. That is all they are accomplishing.
Again with the 49ers recent issues, along with Seattle's dominating performance, if the 49ers lose on Sunday, in the media and fans eyes, the sky will fall, trust me.

Just imagine what Larry Murphy on KNBR will be saying. ...
DungPile is a complete Quaker idiot. He has a tendency to let his hate flow through his mouth like a Sith Lord of Stupidity. Every week one, 16 teams are 0-1 and some of those teams are great teams. Cinci, San Diego, Carolina and Green Bay all started the season 0-1 last year and not a one of those teams is on the Niners' level, yet they went to the playoffs.

The second part of this is that the Niners are NOT GOING TO LOSE TO THE COWBOYS. This is not even worth worrying about, not a hair. Any given Sunday rule aside, the Niners might start the season on one hell of a winning streak while Dunghole is claiming demise. He is just a hater because of some of the off filed stuff and wants the Niners to lose. I can't stand haters, but haters gonna be hatin'

It is not even going to apply. There is no "if" about it. I refuse to entertain the idea that the Cowboys have a defense capable of stopping the Niners from doing whatever they please. It is not arrogance, we are not talking about playing the Hags in Seattle here, which is the only game that I would pencil a loss in for preseason predictions. They gonna be mad.

They are all just regurgitating the same thing everyone else is saying, no original thought.

Bottom line is, we just gotta play a game, everyone is writing us off based off of preseason.
We looked pretty bad preseason. If we look better against Dallas, people will see the 49ers again.

he called Russell Wilson Joe Montana, made me ill to hear that:(.
REally? That's bizarre.
It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't game against media darling Dallas. If we win, it will be because Dallas is SO BAD. If something else happens (I will not write the words) then we are as bad as they think we will be. So might as well put up 50!
Dallas's defense is so bad I tend to agree.
It would be the ultimate embarrassment to lose to such a bad defense, especially after what happened in seattle yesterday.
