This. I stopped reading after that. River is right below the top 4 guys but is above Eli and Big Ben.

Agree. Rivers is a top QB. I would consider him elite right below Brady and P. Manning. Probably also just below Brees but above E. Manning and Big Ben. Clearly better than Romo, Vick etc.
I don't disagree with the Rivers talk. OP edited and categories relabeled to reflect his positioning.

You havent watched the Redskins. While Rex will never be a top tier QB, he is certainly not among the McNabbs, Painters, and TJacks of the QB world. Also, what is the Vick Tier? I'd put him in with Romo, lots of talent and hype and cant win a thing.

Come to think of it, you're actually right I haven't watched them. Given their record, I bumped Grossman up. I also initially put Vick by himself because he's so unique, but I can see him as a Romo-type gunslinger as well.

Ok. I just looked at the list. I'm fine with the rankings.

People see Smith as an "up and comer" and forget the kid is only 27 years old. Kaep is just 3 years younger
Rivers is CLEARLY elite. Smith is breaking into the above average category.

Just wondering the same thing. Makes a good comment and then leaves the link to east coast sports blog.

Fair enough. He seems like a misfit in that category because the other guys are all so new, but you're right that it's too soon to put a cap on his potential.

I think this year he has jumped from pure crap, leap frogged mediocre, and made a legit case for long term status.

Because 5 games is a much better "long term status" measuring stick than 7 years....

In this case I believe that is true. Maybe not "much" better, but of course more recent performance is a better indicator of future performance than less recent performance. Simple logic. That combined with some other factors (i.e. finally having a good coaching staff) overcomes the sample size problem in my eyes, until he comes crashing back down to earth.

Smith has been playing good for longer than just five games. He has had only one bad game in the last twelve or thirteen.

Smith now has 15 touchdown passes with only two interceptions in his last 10 regular-season starts. The 49ers are 7-3 in those games.

My bad guys. Haven't been on the 'zone since 2009 and didn't know I shouldn't advertise my blog. That was a violation.

PS I am from the East Coast by my little cousin plays for your Giants....Darren Ford.....how is he received over there in the Bay?
