You havent watched the Redskins. While Rex will never be a top tier QB, he is certainly not among the McNabbs, Painters, and TJacks of the QB world. Also, what is the Vick Tier? I'd put him in with Romo, lots of talent and hype and cant win a thing.

LOL!
of course you do! I love it.
as for this list, Sanchez done belong in that group. cam doesn't belong in his group. I know he is killing it right now, but so did Bradford in year one. people will figure him out and that offense and when they do, his numbers will drop.
we should all really say that alex is playing good right now. we should not anoint or condemn until all 16+ games are played.
remembe how people were calling t smith the baller we all wanted? remember when JT was the answer? f**k a list until more is known.

What category did you have him in before the season started?

He's Matt Cassel last year or David Garrard at his peak in Jacksonville.
Not turning the ball over, making plays when needed, but not having the workload that most quarterbacks have.
If he ends up with a 3,000 yard 95 rating like he's on pace to that's great, it's exactly what was expected from him this year, we'll make the playoffs, he should get extended, but I wouldn't classify that as anything other than him being a great game manager.

Wow. Either you forgot to post the rest of your list or your loyalty is very admirable. Right along with this guy

The way he's playing now --and it may all falls apart the next game, hope not---I would put him in the category with Brees. Smith is not as accurate but he has the same type of game. Make good decisions. Get the ball to your playmakers on offense. Do your best to extend the plays when broken down. Nothing flashy.

You beat me to it! I might put the first three in front of Smith, but wouldn't count Manning as he is out (may not play again). There is a second group who are good to great but are not my kind of QB. Big Ben is the best example of this group...just don't like his game, too erratic.
Of course, all of this depends on Smith continuing his ascendency!

The thread ask for each person's opinion. I didn't expect everyone to agree with mine. Nor should you if you had the balls to post yours. Don't be snide, or just go away.

I was actually complementing you guys loyalty to the 49ers QB. While my list of QBs I prefer over Smith is a bit longer I'm glad to see confidence in Alex is so high. Chill out.

I view him in the same mold as Brad Johnson in '02, or Kerry Collins when he was with the Titans in '08.

Whatever. I know a snide comment when I read one. My point is when a thread is asking for a person's opinion, unless it's totally outrageous you let it be to each his own so that there will be free thinking without judgmental.
OK, took that chill pill.

Rivers is a border line first tier guy, Ryan is def. a second tier guy, along with Romo and Schaub. Kolb should be in the 'too soon to tell category' imo.

Point taken but just to contribute to the meaning of the thread I will list QBs I would definitively take over Alex.
Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Drew Brees
Philip Rivers
Healthy Peyton Manning
Eli Manning
Matt Schaub
Matt Ryan.
Much shorter than when the season started.

Alex has been with the 49ers...what 6 yrs? In all those years, inspite of avg talent around him, he was never more than an avg QB at best. That says a lot for 6 years (incl injury and OCs and all). Somewhere, some year, some few games, he had to be great or show that spark. We never really saw anything close to consistency.
This year, in 5 games, he has certainly played well...his stats prove it. It's a long season, so the only thing to do is wait and watch.
