After the week 2 loss in OT to the cowboys, these boards blew up with talk of Harbaughs decision to take the 3 points over a first down. At first, i agreed with the mantra that "You NEVER take points off the board!" it makes perfect sense, and it put us up by 2 scores in the 4th quarter. It seemed like a sound decision (and i still think it WAS).
Heres the deal. Harbaugh said you never take points off the board, yet, yesterday he took those points off the board after Akers kicked a field goal, the bucs got flagged for leverage. What happened next? TOUCHDOWNNNNNNN!!!
i think from the beginning it was clear that the points stayed on the board Vs dallas because of a TRUST issue and not because "You never take points off the board". Clearly harbaugh has more trust in this team than he did in week 2, and its obviously deserved.

And it was a different setting. This game was not close, Smith and Receivers were in harmony, every play was a potential touchdown, so lets go get it. In the Dallas game, everything was on the edge and every play could be a sack and a touchdown for Dallas. So this game was a simple display of logic, setting, and atmosphere. In both cases Harbaugh was reading the situation correctly, in my opinion.

Harbs is trusting his offense more now. It's ignorant to alwasy have a "one size fits all" answer to everything.

It was a bad choice. He knows that now and won't do it again.
IMO we win that game if we take the penalty.
We waste some time and kick a FG or score a TD to put it away.

Those kinds of decisions will always be dictated by the flow of the game. No matter what kind of explanation Harbaugh decides to tell the media. IMO... it was the right decision for that particular situation. That loss will NOT come back to haunt us later in the season.

Big word there in "ignorant". Must use small words on the 9ersboard.

What difference does it make how close the game is? You want as many points as you can get.
If the situation is time critical, there are times it can make sense. But 11 minutes and 16 seconds is NOT time critical. That is an eternity in the NFL. 1 minute and 16 seconds, now that would be time critical.
I think "never take points off the board" is a phrase that sounds nice, because "taking points off your own board" sounds like a bad thing. But in 95% of NFL possessions which are not time critical, it makes no sense to me why you would not want to try and get as many points as you can.

^^I agree, or at least take another 2 minutes off the clock then if you cant find the endzone, re kick the field goal. they were definitely close enough.
