AD goes 2nd level and blocks the LB for a bit... then the LB pushes off to disengage but Hunter's already beyond him. Meanwhile and after the push-off, Ad turns around to try and locate where the RB was, and nearly collides with Hunter... so I guess that's what adembroski meant by "AD was lost".

not lost but thought the play was over. We were all used to the short gains and even surprised AD. That was early in the game and would give him a pass since that didn't happen again.

Yes, that's what I recall as well. Wasn't happy that AD didn't just keep blocking till the whistle but that's being picky fifteen yards down the field.
Thanks for this. It helps highlight really how well the game plan was and the play calling. THe difference in the first half was small things not executed to me. And there were several moments where a play SHOULD have been made to extend a drive.
Oldman, you wanna see something that will five you a boner?

Play Staley sat out when Boone came in...15 or so seconds to go in the first.

Alex moved the f**ken defense. After the playaction, he stares at the checkdown Gore route to the left flat which gets the low and meduim defenders to bite. Then he quickly resets and sees Vernon on the same side but deeper where the medium defender should have been.

Effin nice completion to Vernon wide open. Alex did that! HE got Vernon open. Impressive.

On my way to check... can't pass up on that a.m. boner.
Hey, JC... looks like Alex does a similar thing on the prior play just before the 2 minute mark. The high throw completion to Crabtree on slant. Look where he sets his eyes at first.... Gore in the flat to his right... which likely helps clear the LB away from the slant pass underneath.

... and yes, you had the VD play right. How cool is that?

That's a huge plus and it has a lot to do with Harbaugh. I remember one quick scene in preseason practice when Harbaugh is demonstrating a pump-fake to the flat and then motioning to throw deep. Good things.
I'm just gonna throw this out here NOW... because I am irritated.

12:26 - 4th quarter

3rd and 10 at SF 40 (Shotgun) Alex Smith sacked at SF 32 for -8 yards (J.Babin). PHI-T.Cole was injured during the play. His return is Probable.

* sacked in just under or at 3 seconds...

no blocking was good except for Iupati... AD was the big culprit, who let LE get low and outside of him to get QB. AD really has to learn to POP his man off balance... he plays too soft. Overall, the pocket collapsed all around QB. The Eagles sent only 5.... we had a max protect of 7.

( in 4th quarter )

Drive #11

1st and 10 at SF 29 Alex Smith pass incomplete deep right to M.Crabtree.
* Nice PA rollout bomb (50 yard pass) to Crabtree... Walker did well on LE at first, but was starting to lose him, Miller there to make sure LE stayed off Alex. Ball was well thrown... CB on Crabs was just in front and obviously playing "speed bump" to mess up Crabtree. Crabtree gave a small shove, pretty incidental so I'm glad no flag was thrown. Crabtree should have made the catch, but was distracted at the falling CB at his feet.

2nd and 10 at SF 29 Alex Smith pass short right to J.Morgan to SF 38 for 9 yards (A.Samuel).
* VD and Gore stay in to block LE, and STILL, the LE gets a little penetration in front of QB... 3 step drop, Alex did not like options on the left... rolls right and good thing he did, as Staley's RE was coming hard... Alex squeezes this one in nicely into tight spot on his way towards sideline

3rd and 1 at SF 38 F.Gore up the middle to SF 40 for 2 yards (T.Laws).
* really hard to see... we definitely did not win the LOS battle here. I think Gore just insisted on this 1st down... AD clearly was a help here and Walker worked his arse off too.

1st and 10 at SF 40 Alex Smith pass incomplete short right to M.Crabtree (J.Babin).
* Was a designed rollout right, but Walker at weakside FB spot couldn't get over in time to block LE. (don't see how he could have) Great job Alex just to evade LE... ball thrown sideline where only Crabtree could get it, but it was a lil too outside and uncatchable

2nd and 10 at SF 40 (Shotgun) Alex Smith FUMBLES (Aborted) at SF 32, and recovers at SF 30. Alex Smith pass incomplete short right.
* crazy hard and high poor snap flies off Alex's hands.. don't think he was expecting it yet... and Alex picks it up on bounce and chucks it out of bounds

3rd and 10 at SF 40 (Shotgun) Alex Smith sacked at SF 32 for -8 yards (J.Babin). PHI-T.Cole was injured during the play. His return is Probable.

Drive #12

1st and 10 at SF 23 (Shotgun) Alex Smith pass short left to M.Crabtree to SF 26 for 3 yards (D.Rodgers-Cromartie).
* 3 second pass... was as good an option as the receiver on top... morgan in slot blanketed.. VD ran a deeper route, but no way can I see how open he was or wasn't. Pocket was closing in around Alex, but held up enough

2nd and 7 at SF 26 (Shotgun) F.Gore up the middle pushed ob at PHI 49 for 25 yards (J.Page).
* excellent blocks from Goodwin, Iupati, and a pulling Staley inside... Walker with a clutch block on 2nd level DB... VD ran his man away from play and blocked alright downfield

1st and 10 at PHI 49 Alex Smith pass short right to V.Davis to PHI 42 for 7 yards (B.Rolle).
* everyone blocked well on this 3 second pass... smart throw

2nd and 3 at PHI 42 (Shotgun) K.Hunter right end to PHI 44 for -2 yards (J.Chaney). PENALTY on PHI-B.Rolle, Face Mask (15 Yards), 15 yards, enforced at PHI 44.
* decent blocks from Goodwin, Snyder, and even AD at first... AD switched off on another free defender, but either would have been an issue later... bigger fail was Walker on the WLB... couldn't get a legal angle on him, and not really his fault... just good WLB awareness

1st and 10 at PHI 29 Alex Smith pass incomplete deep right.
* another designed mid-screen to Hunter, but it was well covered... Alex rolls right and throws it out of bounds... didn't see anyone open and neither did I.

2nd and 10 at PHI 29 Alex Smith pass short right to V.Davis to PHI 26 for 3 yards (J.Page).
* 3 step drop quick throw to open VD... just no YAC

3rd and 7 at PHI 26 K.Hunter left end to PHI 12 for 14 yards (J.Page).
* surprising call, but excellent... nice pull block effort for Snyder.. Iupati misses cut block... great job seal blocking RE by VD so that Staley could get a clean pull block... which Joe does kinda meh on... nice outside blocks morgan and crabs

1st and 10 at PHI 12 F.Gore right tackle for 12 yards, TOUCHDOWN.
* just a fantastic blocking effort by all here... best block to me was Miller really clearing out the lane, and Gore with terrific vision to use it.

Drive #13

1st and 10 at SF 31 F.Gore up the middle to SF 35 for 4 yards (N.Allen).
* great job of controlling (mauling) by Snyder and AD to spring the cut-back lane for Gore. Good job VD on the other side dealing with LE.
Timeout #2 by PHI at 02:02.

2nd and 6 at SF 35 F.Gore right end to SF 43 for 8 yards (J.Chaney).
* decent job by all, but Iupati pull block plus Gore's vision were key here. Gore showing plenty of burst here too

1st and 10 at SF 43 F.Gore up the middle to SF 47 for 4 yards (T.Laws).
* real nice job by Goodwin, Snyder, and AD to control their DL... Gore showing some nice, squirmy cuts

Timeout #3 by PHI at 01:50.

2nd and 6 at SF 47 F.Gore up the middle to PHI 48 for 5 yards (B.Rolle).
Timeout #1 by SF at 01:04.
* good 2nd level block AD... Sopo and a pulling Iupati clear far right... Rachal and Snyder helping to create lane... Goodwin does all he needs to on LDT... Eagles DL seem rather deflated

3rd and 1 at PHI 48 F.Gore up the middle to PHI 43 for 5 yards (N.Asomugha).
* small crease and Gore keeps legs churning

1st and 10 at PHI 43 Alex Smith kneels to PHI 44 for -1 yards.

End of Game
Thanks again old man. Now could you give us your pros and cons of the offense and where you see us going next?

Eh.. I typically leave everyone to make their own conclusions. Here's some quick thoughts:

For me, I'd say that we can have a very good year with this bunch we have.

- We have to get "nastier" on the OL though. Iupati and occasionally Staley play mean and intense, but we need to kick Goodwin, Snyder, and especially Anthony Davis in the pants and get them to play nasty football.

- We need to continue to get a healthy mix of Hunter and Gore involved in the run game. Staley is a wicked run blocking weapon when he pulls outside and we need to utilize more of those weak-side tosses when Hunter is in. We HAVE to do a better job using TEs/RBs/FBs to get a chip-block on Anthony Davis' DL rusher... he needs it... Alex needs it!

- Miller over Norris... every time.

- Need to teach Morgan and VD how to better adjust and find a soft zone when a play breaks down and Alex rolls out in trouble.

- We should continue to utilize this quick play-action that we have been using. I like it... it's not time-consuming to execute, and has to get LBs and DBs to bite at times.

- Still want more quick 9 routes when Alex sees that the play-side safety is not in cover 2. I'm sure we will when Braylon returns, but still...

- I still like the idea of having (at least trying) Alex Boone at RT and AD inside to RG. But I understand not wanting to blow AD's confidence... but how much can he really have anyway?

- oh, and defense? More press coverage! This 3 man rush zone crap is NOT working well!

So more adjustment, more play book as the coaches see what works or not, and another possible adjustment in the Oline with Boone at RT and AD at RG. But overall you see hope in continued growth and effective playmaking?

Maybe not from every week to week, but overall, yes. We will have a bad game here and there. Staley stepped up and showed us why we liked him vs a very difficult RE rusher. Weakest link now = AD, and Snyder is decent most of the time but does screw up 2-3 times per game that can hurt us pretty badly. Our play-calling is creative and unpredictable (for the most part), and our QB is playing smart and efficient ball.

I am optimistic that we will be a playoff team this season... finally... but not seriously expecting a deep visit.
Goodwin doesn't seem to be playing very well, and neither does Iupati. A little disappointing.

BTW, that play that Kaep came in, not the draw but the penalty that didn't let him get a play. It was a sprint right and it looked as if there was a backside deep post going to happen. I think Harbaugh was going to let Kaep air it out deep to the backside of the field similar to what PHI did with Jackson. Too bad it was a false start. Would have loved to see him throw one deep.

I think Ginn was split on that side.
