I'm gonna add to this drive by drive over the next few days...

Drive #1

1st Quarter

1st and 10 at SF 19 K.Hunter left end to SF 26 for 7 yards (J.Page; N.Asomugha).
* solid blocks by VD, Staley, Iupati, Goodwin, and especially lead blocking Miller

2nd and 3 at SF 26 Alex Smith pass short right to D.Walker to SF 29 for 3 yards (B.Rolle). FUMBLES (B.Rolle), recovered by SF-C.Culliver at SF 26. Penalty on SF-A.Davis, Tripping, declined. San Francisco challenged the pass completion ruling, and the play was REVERSED. Alex Smith pass incomplete short right to D.Walker. PENALTY on SF-A.Davis, Tripping, 10 yards, enforced at SF 26 - [b]No Play.[/b]
* pitiful drop by DWalker

2nd and 13 at SF 16 Alex Smith pass short middle to K.Hunter to SF 34 for 18 yards (B.Rolle).
* clever middle-screen... key decent blocks from Goodwin, AD, and Snyder

1st and 10 at SF 34 F.Gore up the middle to PHI 26 for 40 yards (N.Asomugha).
* nice key blocks from AD, Snyder, and Goodwin again!

1st and 10 at PHI 26 Alex Smith pass incomplete short middle to K.Hunter.
* AD quickly gives up too much ground and Alex evades nicely... low and inconsequential throw for Hunter (would have gained a yard)

** announcer saying we should be running till they prove they can stop us... and he's right.

2nd and 10 at PHI 26 Alex Smith pass incomplete short right to K.Hunter.
* AD is far too slow to get out in front of a screen set up for Hunter. Hunter takes eyes off the ball for a second and drops good pass. If caught, he could have cut back left and AD could have made his block for a big gain..

3rd and 10 at PHI 26 (Shotgun) Alex Smith pass incomplete short left to M.Crabtree (B.Rolle). (11:30)
* OL holds well enough... Alex takes short and rather useless shot at underneath Crabtree route... I can't tell if the other 2 deeper routes are well covered or not. Ball was accurate but dropped.

* FG missed... leverage penalty on Eagles missed also

Drive #2

1st and 10 at SF 41 K.Hunter right guard to SF 43 for 2 yards (C.Jenkins).
* good job Staley 2nd level block... Goodwin controlled his DT well enough... about a yard push for Snyder... AD briefly chipped Snyder's DT before moving 2nd level to block LB... just clogged up behind Snyder with nowhere to really go for Hunter.

2nd and 8 at SF 43 K.Hunter left end to SF 39 for -4 yards (J.Chaney).
Timeout #1 by SF at 08:19.
* Peelle does what he is supposed to do... which is to slide to the next block, but Staley does lousy job of picking up Peelle's original block and let's RDE penetrate for tackle

3rd and 17 at SF 34 #7 C. Kaepernick in at QB. (Shotgun) F.Gore up the middle to SF 39 for 5 yards (T.Laws).
* Iupati couldn't handle the RDT, and Snyder also underwhelmed on his block LDT... Iupati was the big fail here

Drive # 3

1st and 10 at SF 24 Alex Smith pass short right to M.Crabtree to SF 35 for 11 yards (A.Samuel).
* very quick throw on 3 step drop... great catch Crabtree, as the ball was strong and high (didn't have to jump for it but did reach above head) Pass pro held

1st and 10 at SF 35 Alex Smith pass short left to D.Walker to SF 40 for 5 yards (J.Page).
* another quick 3 stepper... Alex went through 3 progressions... nice pass to the best open option... good pass pro

2nd and 5 at SF 40 F.Gore up the middle to SF 42 for 2 yards (M.Fokou). SF-J.Staley was injured during the play. His return is Probable.
* Sopo blocks RDT well, lolz... everyone else looks to do their part, except the key fail is Goodwin missing 2nd level blocks, plus the D was pinched up well with LBs to stop the inside run.

* Staley hurt, in comes Boone

3rd and 3 at SF 42 (Shotgun) Alex Smith pass short right to M.Crabtree to PHI 44 for 14 yards (A.Samuel).
* Boone takes a jolt from RE but does well... Iupati free... Goodwin loses a couple yds but is fighting... AD and Snyder do their jobs well... great catch Crabtree on another strong, high pass on slant.

1st and 10 at PHI 44 Alex Smith pass deep left to V.Davis to PHI 18 for 26 yards (J.Page).
* big props to OL pass pro on the 7 step, 4.5 second pass.. perfect pass and catch. Boone perfectly stoned his RDE, and he needed to for that pass direction

1st and 10 at PHI 18 F.Gore up the middle to PHI 16 for 2 yards (M.Patterson).
* Goodwin couldn't hold his block on RDT and Iupati didn't get his block 2nd level

2nd and 8 at PHI 16 Alex Smith pass incomplete deep middle to T.Ginn [C.Jenkins].
* Alex gets blasted as he sets from his 5 step drop and throw... Snyder beaten quickly over his right shoulder by LDT... QB had about 2.9 seconds, and there didn't appear to be any better options or time to adjust to getting them the ball. Alex seemed set on his first read... high throw in the end-zone to Ginn... one of those "you catch it or no one will" types.

3rd and 8 at PHI 16 (Shotgun) Alex Smith sacked at PHI 19 for -3 yards (J.Babin).
* Alex had about 3.5 seconds.. he stepped in to avoid Staley's RE, but was shoe-laced by AD's LE that came all the way across... In the red zone, we know there isn't much room to operate... but I just can't see what he is seeing. (only 4 rushed)

Further supports that Alex played well and 2 "check downs" were screen passes (designed).


You know what I think we will see in the future? Iupati in at FB and we throw a pass to him for a short TD.

No stop-watch... I just count out the seconds in normal fashion, and make sure to do it at least twice to assure myself of the accuracy.

Only what I posted above closely... but I'm in the 3rd quarter of my third time watching through casually while I zip around the net.

What I loved about this game is that Alex and Harbaugh really utilized our 1-2 punch in Gore and Hunter pretty well, and no it wasn't just because of check downs. But Gore and Hunter were finding the open spots in their (Eagles) Zones and Smith quickly found them or bought time with his legs and found them. Once he got that down, receivers were easier to find.

I think my favorite play of this game was that deep pass to Crabs between Asomugha and the Safety, then Crabs shook them both before Asomugha later cuaght up to him......friggin beautiful!!!
