Bill Walsh always said; a year to early is better than a year to late, right?

Yes but that didn't always work out for the team, did it. Like Craig and Lott, for example.

Craig was going downhill but who did we replace him with? Wasn't it Keith Henderson? Watters eventually, obviously.

Don't mention that name!!!!

Craig had a not bad year with the Raiders before he became a Vike. Not saying he was great but I have always thought that Bill Walsh's maxim needs to be extended, something like : but make sure you have a replacement ready. Be cause we didn't with either Craig or Lott. Or Haley iirc.

damn,, how come haley could not coexist with timmy harris , can you imagine what our pass rush could have been with those two together?? i am not a big person of looking back and dreaming of what if,, but that one always gets me .. i would like to think the team is going to draft a very very good d lineman in round number one or two, regardless of what country does

Yes hope so. Although I also hope Tank steps it up.

Dude

I remember we had fuvkin Trent Dilfer as our Qb and we were like 3-10 .

We played the then SB Arizona Kurt Warner led Cardinals.

Watching this close game with my bipolar pops and we were still rooting hard.

Waning seconds of the 4th qtr ,niners winning by a point or two( I forget) ,and Kurt just needed a first down to be in fg range.

Again the season is in the shtter ,but who comes in and not only gets the game winning sack but causes a fumble? Justin Smith, going balls out to the last second.

We cheered so hard ...the hardest in that forgotten season.

Yeah so that never happened but its a fun story i bet

You were probably too busy washing your T.O. Eagles jersey.

K well trent dilfer played qb for the 49ers in 2007 and the link you posted is for a game from 2009

Sorry I confused Dilfer with Slim Pickens Pickett,or Rattay or whomever we decided to rotate along with ASmith and Hill. That qb combo was so frustrating and annoying. Every offensive drive was all on Gore because the passing game was non existent.. 3 and outs aplenty

Craig left a year too late if anything, his final season was terrible.

Lott on the other could have stayed on for another few years.
If gore falls off a cliff then Bakke was a genius and if gore gets 1,500 yards....

I love gore by the way!

No way on Earth Gore gets even close to 1500 yards. He's only exceeded 1500 1 time back in 2006 and the Colts are a pass 1st team so Gore will just get about 10 to 15 carries a game and he is 32 and now on Turf Yikes.

She's right. He'll have to do the veteran minimum as far as practice and play in as many snaps as he wants in a low pressure situation.

I found this quote funny:

The effort to get him back apparently has some help on the inside as well with Reid reporting that Smith's wife is also in favor of her husband strapping on the gear for another year in the trenches.

When your wife says that she wants you to go back to work, it means that you aren't fun to be around in the house.
I could see him coming back and baalke knew it all along as a smokescreen for the draft.

What if he completely falls off in years 2 & 3? Cant just look at this season is all Im saying.

I think he will do decent this year as part of that rotation 800-1000 yards, years 2 and 3 of his contract… not so sure. He'll have to stay injury free at his age to keep up those numbers cause his body won't heal like it used to. Regardless I'll still root for him, but I also agree with not resigning him if he wanted 3 years $12m from the FO.

But back to Smith… This looks like the typical veteran business play, flirt with retirement but then show up when needed. I think Strahan did that for awhile too.

Back to "Justin"

With 5 days to go to the draft - I'm sure he let Trent/JT know his plans.

he's not the kind of guy to leave his friends hanging through FA and the Draft.

IMO, he's coming back and will not be at TC or at least the full camp
