and i dunno about YAC edwards crabtree is more agile but edwards is pretty big and pretty fast so i would put YAC also as toss up

Hasn't had the practice so he doesn't start but gets a few reps if our #3 looks bad and we are sucking.

Don't think Jim wants to put him out there if there is any question that Crabs has the routes and timing down.

I know it's against Edwards, but Crabtree's hands are responsible for a lot of tipped passes.

craps's holdout, not playing preseason, and unfortunately, giving the appearance of not being a team guy, just makes me think this is a kid, who has lots of talent, but chooses to use it or turn it off, depending on how he feels. I have no idea if that is the situation or not, but that is the impression i have gotten from him. If he were on the Patriots or the Saints, maybe he would be different, maybe not. But he is here, and my gut feeling is this kid is not giving his all, and it would be nice for him to at least look like a teamer. A sit down with noln or BM(bigmike) type would not have been helpful. Maybe a sit down with JH might.

Whatever, I would love to see him play with his heart on his sleeve, but so far I haven't. Man would i love to see that change. He has the tools to be one of the top 5 WRs in the league, and his play to date is nowhere near that. I don't know what the problem is but he is a lot more talented than he has shown. If he got hot, with Braylon on the other side, oh my...that could be very interesting. Whatever it is i hope JH can coax it out of him.

People are pissed about him missing three preseasons, but he missed the last two preseasons because of injuries.

Last year, he hurt his neck in practice. This year he hurt his foot in a player-organized work-out.
The first preseason missed was the result of his hold-out which was in my mind stupid..


There is no scintilla of proof indicating that Crabtree has intentionally avoided playing in the preseason.
Even though there is no proof, innuendos, insults, and accusations run rampant.

I do recognize that missing these three preseasons has hurt his development as a player.

His hold-out did make me suspect that he might be a diva, but since then he has not acted, with the possible exception of a couple of cryptic remarks about Alex Smith, like a typical diva. In fact, Crabtree does not draw a lot of attention to himself; most divas do. He tends to avoid the spotlight. He does not seem very gregarious, but being reserved is hardly a problem.

Perhaps, a comparison of Crabtree and Vernon Davis might be enlightening.

Davis really did act like a diva in the first two years of his career. And if I remember correctly, many people on this forum defended his idiotic behavior.
Compared to Davis, Crabtree has been a relatively good citizen in his first two years on the team.

Davis was the 6th pick in the draft. Crabtree was the 10th pick in the draft.

In his first two years, Davis had 72 receptions for 774 yards and 7 touchdowns
In his first two years, Crabtree had 103 receptions for 1,366 yards, and 8 touchdowns.

Davis changed. He matured. His game has improved.
Be patient. Give Crabtree time. He will mature. His game will improve.

I do not think that Crabtree could fake a broken foot and not have the team doctors know. The injury he has is an issue of overuse, unfortunately it is a problem again. The holdout is my only issue with him, he didn't get the deal he was holding out for, so it was wasted time for all involved.

Good point. I think people are still mad at the hold-out. If he ever had a big year (1000+ yards) atitudes would change.
