He's not an NFL starting QB. Besides all the obvious reasons, let look at his recent excuse, the Oline and blitzes. I see QB's all the time pointing out the blitzers and where they are coming from. With a rookie center (rookie in terms of never playing center), he should be the one pointing out blitzes and such instead of hoping the center and line sees it hoping they pick it up and make the necassary changes.
It would also let the WR's know this guy is coming and the proper person can adjust accordingly. But instead we show insanity. Trying the same thing over and over expecting different results.
Until we quit trying the same QB over over we will continue to get the same results.

man that is good comedy there, if the linemen were getting beat because they missed calls, maybe, but they were flat out getting manhandled and pushed into the backfield. You cannot scapegoat Smith for that.

in retrospect, I think Nolan was a good coach. He put together a really good staff for being at it his first time and he was big on discipline with the organization. We have found out since his departure that he is an awesome D coordinator as well, and he wasn't just at the right place at the right time with Baltimore. His fatal error was looking for a meek and compliant game manager instead of a winning gunslinger. That ultimately is what got him fired.

Alex Smith attempted 6 passes...
my understanding is the # of passes attempted has nothing to do with rating - it's what he does with those passes. he could have gotten the max rating of 158.3 if he had been more effective with those passes.
Of course...you're 100% correct about that. But, my point was - judging a QB's performance after 6 throws is a little ridiculous. It's like judging a runner after 10m in a 100m race.
Well, I could bust out QB ratings from 2005 - 2010 to increase the sample size, but that would rain on your little parade here.
...I'm no Alex Smith supporter. I wanted him gone this off-season...but was okay with Harbaugh's decision - since he knows what he is doing when it comes to QBs. So, if you want to post his QB rating for previous seasons, be my guest, but my comment had nothin' to do with Alex Smith. I just think it's ridiculous on the part of reporters to talk about a QB rating based on 6 throws, and disingenuous on the part of the ppl who are running with that statistic. There is plenty to criticize Alex Smith on - no need to make up dubious arguments.
