He is just starting his second year and was as raw as a rookie can be, he will get better.

He just reminds me of Kwame and it's frustrating.

I thought the K-word was warnable on this board.

Yeah, pretty sure that was player bashing under the new rules comparing him to Kwame. Totally unwarranted

What's with all the false starts Tony

1) Bowman - Thought for sure we'd have a few more growing pains with TKO leaving, but this guy has been sharp so far this year.
2) Brooks - I thought Smith was taken to replace Manny. Turns out Brooks took that job and ran with it.
3) Boone - Really happy for this dude. Goes from a character issue UDFA to challenging a 1st rounder for a position.
4) Miller - Thought it would take more time for this guy to get the hang of offense. Fullback who can catch = weapon.
5) Edwards - I've gotten excited over some FA WRs before (Bryant, Jackson, Bruce), and usually been disappointed. The guys I mentioned were talent upgrades, but Edwards looks like he's going to be an actual difference maker.

Honorable mention: Dobbs - Saw him play while he was here at UGA. Never really struck me as NFL guy, certainly not as a 3-4 lineman, but he's been really solid the first couple of games. Hope he at least makes the P-Squad, maybe even the 6th lineman.

This is a good list.
Bowman so far looks like we haven't missed a beat. 3rd rounder.
Brooks I believe was a late rounder or undrafted fa. I see him as an upgrade over Manny as well. Better pass rusher.
Everyone loves the Boone story. nuf said.
Always loved the Miller pick/conversion. I can see fans getting upset over trying to convert a 2nd or 3rd rounder but come on...looks like this experiment is working out-7th rounder
Edwards looks like everything Crabtree was supposed to be by now. Whats up with that?
How bout RJF? 7th rounder and now our 1st team all purpose D-lineman.

I'll add Colin Kap too. So far, he looks poised, makes guys miss in the pocket, and he's mobile. I don't know if he's going to take Smith's spot this year but I can definitely envision him doing some touchdown drives. Nice to see someone make huge chunks of yardage as a QB. Makes me remember the good old days of Steve Young

The problem has been that the coaching HAD been so bad that we expected, and received, the worst from most picks and pick-ups. As a result, we are now surprised when players play like they can due to good coaching. We shouldn't be surprised by this, however, due to prior circumstances, we just don't quite know how to react.

This

#1 - Aldon Smith

This dude seriously needs more love in this thread - for all the questioning that was going on post-draft, this guy has just looked like a straight out baller since day 1; Aldon Smith seriously looks like that marquee piece our D needs to reach an elite level

#2 - Tramaine Brock

#3 - NaVorro Bowman

#4 - Bruce Miller

#5 - Alex Boone

New guys ready to BUST some heads

This! Wouldn't have thought any of these players would make a difference let alone make the team. It's amazing what a little good coaching can accomplish.

it should be, Davis is nothing like him at all. Anthony is much stronger and already better than Harris
Kilgore has surprised me. Higher draft picks (smith) and second year guys such as Bowman are expected to perform well. Kilgore will be in competition with wragge to start rachal doesn't get going. Kilgore has been nasty in games, I haven't seen him in practice so I am forming my opinion on last two weeks. I need to add Dobbs to the surprising list also.

For fans, I'm not sure this is a "suprise," but McDonald has looked flat out beastly so far. I never understood why he didn't get more reps over Soap, but that's the past and now its his time to shine. If our team can sneak into the playoffs, I'm seeing a defensive front with two pro-bowlers on it (Smith,RayMac).

Bruce Miller he's gonna finally rid us of that under grown guard Norris.

Miller also seems to be a better receiver

Man I was SO pissed when he couldnt handle that short pass, that was SIX, but he F&cked up bad on that play.... I wanted him gone after that ...Miller can at least catch the damn ball

In his defense that was a terrible pass.

I've seen that pass multiple times. It was far from terrible. ANYONE else on the team would have caught that. Smith's problem was he over estimated Norris' 1.3 inch leap.

I agree that the kid needs more recognition for his play, but I wouldn't put him in this category myself... because I'm not surprised.

LOL... I agree. It was not that bad of a pass.
