Then Hell on Earth will happen and we won't get to finish our magical season, alex won't be named comeback player of the year, and Jimmy Harbaugh won't be named coach of the year. In 300 years people will find an old scroll with the NFL logo on it with the most recent seasons statistics on it. They will see that Alex Smith had three TD's more than Brady after 10 games and assume he was the greatest QB ever. They will try to reinvent football and build an Alex Smith statue to worship and remind people of the game's past. That's my prediction.

I was posting in the Braylon predictions thread and almost ended up going on rant about what to expect from our offense this year. Despite the talent on our roster we are completely handcuffed by our quarterback play. Alex's only complete season was in 2006 under Norv Turner, during his sophmore season he threw for 2800 yards but had a 1/1 TD/INT ration of 16 and 16. since then Alex's play hasn't improved much, during his last 2 seasons he has had 2 straight 11 game seasons with remarkably equal statistics, this is arguably Alex's ceiling and we are all hoping Harbaugh can help raise his ceiling a little bit more. During the last 2 seasons Alex has posted a 3/2 TD/INT ratio(18/12 in 2009 and 14/10 in 2010) and thrown for almost 2400 yards. It's pretty obvious that we can't get through a single game or maybe 2 if we're lucky without Alex throwing an interception and should be incredibly used to 200 yard games but those could have possibly been factors of Singletary focusing so heavily on the run.

I'll quickly insert foot in mouth should Harbaugh's teachings finally light a fire under Alex's ass and he plays like first round quarterback should let alone the #1 overall pick.

Now that I've got that out of the way I'd like to hear what rank our offense will finish with, Alex's yards and TD/INT ratio, Gore's yardage and number of TDs(should he not be traded I had to throw that in there, I don't buy it but you never know), and who will be the top receiver and their yards and TDs.

I personally think our offense will finish in the 12-18 ranking range
Alex will throw for 3650 yards 32 TDs and 18 INTs
Gore will run for 1300 yards 8 TDs
and I'll go one better on myself and outline my predictions for the receivers at least in yards.
Edwards 750 yards 8 TDs
Crabtree 650 yards 6 TDs
Morgan 350 yards 2 TDs
Williams 275 yards 2 TDs
Ginn 250 yards 2 TDs
Johnson 225 yards 2TDs
Davis 650 yards 7 TDs
Walker 400 yards 3 TDs
Reuland 100 yards 1 TDs

What's your point? Most quarterbacks throw about an interception a game. Hell, Drew Brees, a top-3 quarterback, averaged a pick and a half per game last year. You act like NOT going back to back games without throwing a pick is a terrible thing when in reality that is OUTSTANDING if it IS accomplished. Even if he threw ONE (let alone zero) over back to back games, that's an 8 int rate for the season which is absolutely tremendous. He has thrown a pick on less than 3.1% of his passes over the last 2 years, which is not exactly awful, especially considering an unusually high # of those were not his fault.

I'm optimistic on this team's offense this year. I don't know what the numbers will be, but I expect that it'll start off about "average" and grow to be "solid" (top 7-12) by the end of the season which will be perfect if we make it into the play-offs.

POTD nomination done, it's well-deserved.

You are right. We are handcuffed by the QB position. Unproven starter, rookie backup, and the a UFL scrub backing him up.

I predict Smith will be on the bench at the bye and Kaep steps in.

I predict that you are wrong. We were handcuffed by terrible coaching, and even with the abbreviated preseason, we will be a more cohesive football team, more so than since any time since Mooch was fired.

I think you assessment is a good portion of the teams problems last year. Now we will see this Saturday if we will see consistent improvement across the board as a team. I think Texas will tell us where we are going as a team. If we see improvement we will be advancing and be another step ready for the regular season.
