http://www.freep.com/article/20111013/SPORTS01/110130574/Lions-Jahvid-Best-eager-take-team-grew-up-hating
Lions running back Jahvid Best is coming off the best rushing performance of his career -- 163 yards against the Bears on Monday night.
So he might not need extra incentive for Sunday's game against San Francisco, but he has it anyway.
"I grew up a Raider fan, so definitely my eyes are set on San Francisco this week because it's a team I grew up hating," Best said Wednesday. "So it's definitely a little plus for me."
It's understandable. Best grew up in Richmond, Calif., only a few miles from where the so-called "Black Hole" cheers for the Raiders at O.co Coliseum -- but figuratively a world away from tony San Francisco and its glitzy five-time Super Bowl champion 49ers.
The Niners are 4-1 and seem poised to recapture some of their glory. One of the 49ers' keys has been their run defense, spearheaded by three-time All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis. San Francisco gives up only 76.4 rushing yards per game (tied for fourth in the NFL) and has not allowed a running back to top 100 yards in the past 27 games -- the NFL's longest current streak.
"Patrick Willis is good, but he's not the only one," coach Jim Schwartz said of the 49ers' linebackers. "NaVorro Bowman is a second-year (player) from Penn State. He looks a lot like Lance Briggs we faced last week."
Schwartz also singled out rookie Aldon Smith, who leads the team with 3 1/2 sacks, and 6-foot-3, 259-pound Ahmad Brooks.
"Might be the best linebacking corps that we face all year," Schwartz said. "Obviously, some really, really good players."
A lot of the strength stems from the 49ers' 3-4 scheme, much of which is similar to Green Bay's 3-4 scheme. San Francisco defensive coordinator Vic Fangio worked under Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers in Carolina and Houston.
"They've got a great group," Best said of the 49ers' linebackers, "so we've just got to focus in again and create some air and find some lanes to run through."

Stafford incomplete deep pass for Calvin Johnson incomplete, and then on 2nd play bowman stops best for a 3 yard loss

First offensive play?
27 yard flea flicker to Michael Crabtree (he was the only receiver option, the TE's and RB's are blocking)

I cant wait for the game, and I am super pumped for it. Long time reader, first time poster.
Couple of points I would like to make.
Jim Harbaugh is a very bright young mind that has brought innovation back to our beloved franchise. I don't ever recall an NFL team utilizing TE/Jumbo packages in the way that Harbaugh and Roman are doing. What they are doing is nearly impossible to defend with any type of consistency. The very first thing that they are doing begins in the huddle. They are sending in two plays the majority of the game, most of the time its going to be one run and one pass for Alex to decide on while under center scanning the defense. Then of course, based on what he sees in the defenses alignment he will either reset the play or let it roll.
They are also using the talent we have in ways that really confuse a defense. Lining up in a three TE set just screams were going to run the football. But they have also thrown multiple TDs to Vernon and Walker in what is predominately known as a power run formation. This type of scheming really presents a big problem for opposing defenses. You almost certainly have to honor the run game with such a heavily unbalanced line which features a 3 TE bunch formation. If you honor the run and bring that 8th and 9th man down in the box then you leave yourself open to the big play down the field which we have seen in recent weeks. Now if you don't honor the run and you bring out a nickle base, then we are going to check to a run and ram it right down your throat.
I just love what Harbaugh has brought to this team, he is one hell of a smart coach who knows this game and how to exploit it.
I am predicting a very convincing 49er win(38-17). Stafford is a good young QB but he has only started 13 career games. There is still a ton he hasn't seen. I`d be surprised if Fangio couldn't reach in his bag of tricks and bring something to the table that the young QB has never seen before. In Fact I would be down right shocked. I expect to see more pressure then avg and a lot more deception from the Niners defense this Sunday. They will look to get after and confuse Stafford early and often.
Bring it on, this is the New World Order 49ers!!!!
