Who will have more sacks? (A.Smith vs V.Miller)

Miller has also been injured in TC twice in the past week and hasn't stood out, but he also hasnt practiced that much. Both look like they will pan out so far based off talent and work ethic, but Miller is definitely showing some durability issues at this level and has gotten knicked up each time he takes the practice field.

Funny side story, ran into Miller and Rahim Moore at the centennial quiznos on wednesday while they were picking up an order for 20 sandwiches (he drives a black prius btw, which I thought was respectable). I wanted to take a picture for my friends and the NFL Talk forum but I made a light hearted comment to Moore about it being bright in there since he was wearing his shades inside quiznos... didnt go over to well as they gave me a WTF look and never responded... oh well. Take it for what its worth and que the 'cool story bra' pics.

Miller will also play some DE on obvious passing downs.

So basically you are insinuating that our O-Line will be incompetent in pass protection. Alex is no more likely to get sacked than any other QB would.

I would have to go with Aldon Smith. He's just going to be rushing the passer more often (IMO).

It's like asking us to vote who will have more sacks between Willis and Jared Allen. Even the biggest homer should take Allen.

That said, Miller himself said that if he doesn't win DROY, it will be Aldon Smith.

I wasn't a big fan of Miller in the draft to begin with. I didn't think he was worth a #2 pick. With that said, I liked Aldon Smith, but thought he was a bit of a reach (not much, but a bit) where the Niners picked him.

I'll be a homer and say Smith, but he will be playing in the 3-4 and will probably have more opportunities.

I asked a writer this question, chris wesseling(rotoworld and nbcsports.com) who does these rookie "buzz" ratings(and has aldon ranked #7 after a ton of highly ranked offensive rookies lol, he's like 3rd among defensive rookies)

he replied:

Not much of an explanation to it though.

To me there are a few advantages that I think Aldon could use to get more sacks than miller:
-20 pounds heavier and 1 inch taller, I know miller is an athletic freak(his arms look huge already) but it's hard to compare muscle-to-muscle when aldon has to fill out that huge frame. The long arms make it easier to shed blocks, and wrap up QBs.

-49ers have j.smith, willis, and a load of other guys who can get a few sacks here and there, broncos have the amazing dumerville, then that's it. You don't really need to worry about sacks from the broncos D-line.

The scheming possibilities are much higher for fangio with more weapons to play with. A bunch of our guys never were even asked to really blitz.

Aldon, while some call him undersized as well, still could play much more successfully in our hybrid 4-3 as well, giving him just a touch of versatility over miller.

I voted Miller. It's tough to compete with that elite first step, and I haven't seen it from Aldon yet. Miller will also be accounted for by an RB on most of his blitzes, most likely, and that's an easier battle than Aldon will face most if the time.
