Goldson had his best year at FS in 2009 and is probably a better all-around FS than SS. I like the combination of him and Donte Whitner at safety. Two physical safeties who can run, hit and tackle (though Goldson's tackling was pretty bad last year). Both guys in pass coverage are average at best. I also like Reggie Smith as our 5th DB as he can play the slot corner position with his speed and range.

All of a sudden, I like our secondary. If this kid Chris Culver pans out and Tremaine Brock can develop into a solid nickel corner than I really like our secondary.

Don't forget Adams, the kid can ball.

I've read that the Eagles won't give up Samuel for anything less than a 1st round pick.

If there is a trade, it would probably be something along the lines of Mays for a 6th round pick. Otherwise I think we'll see a lot of guys simply cut, some moved to the PS, and others gone for good.

Agreed, this mays for asante talk is just getting ridiculous. Have the eagles even show indication they want Mays???

They got Nate Allen last year, no way they want Mays.

Baalke didn't listen to all the media madness, and is obviously with the help of his quality coaching staff had a pretty accurate value on the players he wanted to let go. Yes, the Niners DID sign their own guys at their APPROPRIATE market value. Not one of the starters let go, or returned, has garnered more money worth their value except Baas. Dashon comes back because I'm willing to bet the 49ers were going to pay him a hair more than the Pats. I think that pretty much confirms Baalke and staffs player assessment.

Dashons return is exciting to me not because he came back, but it confirms what I thought was happening; Baalke Harbaugh and all the coaching expertise are sharing notes and making decisions as a groupn with Tom Gamble. Finally - NFL caliber coaching and player evaluation is back in SF. We've gone from terrible secondary to not so bad and with major upside to get better.

Nice post! I really like what they are doing here this off-season. Let us hope for many more good things to come

Yeah I did lol. I guaran dam teed it. Guess I was wrong

Go us. Baalke wins again. This is a great move IMO. Right price for the right time and well timed considering Smith just got tweaked.

cmon now. this is Niner Talk. the Yorks are just being cheap and Baalke is an inexperienced suktard.
We had to resign him because Reggie smith fell off the toilet while getting a bloken.
