I don't know about the starting talent Safety for us but man, we haven't had this good depth at Safety in a long time.
Whitner seems like a Michael Lewis part 2. We still need a legitimate cover Safety and I hope Reggie Smith can be that guy.

Goldon, Godson, etc. Who cares about currekt spelin? We no who yuo meen!
On a side note, this re-signing for a one year deal makes no sense. Career-wise, he would've been better off in NE. Playoff team and their D would make him look better than he really is...strong in run support and good tackler, weak in man-to-man coverage (see Saints game, MNF). Then, he could've re-signed with them or test FA after a year for more dough.
Unless there's some truth to the injury rumors, I'm still trying to figure this one out, especially since Goldson wasn't exactly the model player with some of his quotes on Twitter about the organization.

Goldson blinked first! Thought he was a goner for sure. Count another one for Baalke and Paraag who stick to their assigned values for players and dont budge.
Gonna be interesting to see what situational defensive packages can be created due to the safety depth.

We have been making some solid deals in Free Agency this year.

by my quick count that's 4 one years now? will have a little work to do next season to fill some holes with longer term solutions. I also see their vision of replacing spikes with bowmann being a flop so that'll probably be another hole to fill.
but yeah, for a one year, let's see what we can bring together on short notice thing, not bad at all..

With all these players having to same idea of signing one year deals to enter a less competitive market next year, they're gonna make next years fa market just as cluttered.

Smith tweeted last night, "Everything happens for a reason, I believe that. Just wish it didn't happen right now". That sounds very bad too me. It's in one of the Goldson articles on the home page.

So Donte at the free and Goldson at the strong? Both play like strong safeties.
Probably vice versa.
Yes. I wouldn't say Dashon will be given the job outright (so long as Smith is healthy and keeps performing well).
The market kicked the crap outta Goldson. Didn't he want Top 5 Safety money or so?
He gets a lot of hate on this board, much of which is earned, but I'm glad we brought him back. Adds depth (hopefully Smith's injury isn't too bad), has a nose for the ball, and hopefully now he knows that he has to do a lot more to get the contract he's seeking.
Depth in our backfield is certainly a good problem to have. I think Dashon is a good player, I just wish he wasn't with such an asshat agent (which may have kinda rubbed off on him). I hope he gets a little humbled by this experience and works hard to earn his next contract.
Ya, hopefully 1 yr / $2M gets his attention.
