there are a few guys who just grossly overcalculated their appeal, unfortunately for goldson, he was one of them. From a team standpoint, with money under the cap, there are teams that are going to hold on to and carry contracts they normally wouldn't, adding another safety you might not readily need looks like that luxury to me.

But for that luxury, you retain a player who has been with the bulk of the players on the roster for years now and understands the faults and strengths of the defense. For a new incoming coach and staff who didn't get any ota stuff, that's a nice luxury for them to have.

I also caught the bizarre reggie smith tweets last night and found it more bizarre no tangible info came out thruought the night on it but if that is something that becomes a issue, goldson on a one year is a no brainer.
I just dont get all these one year deals? I know its common around the league this year, but it seems like this could put us in a real pickle if the team performs well. Most teams that make the playoffs get raided in FA the following year.
I am crious to see the contract. It will be interesting to see how much they gave the guy.
WTH when did Reggie get injured? News to me

ALREADY POSTED.

MODS....please move this 3rd exact post to the DASHON GOLDSON thread

Ohh look at the cute little wannabe Mod...

Anyways good move IMO. Now we have Williams as a backup. He can backup SS,FS, and CB. Great for depth.

Smith tweeted this morning that he was "up and ready, time to get busy". Also, I didn't think that the Niners had a practice yesterday(Sunday). Did this happen on Saturday? Looking forward to hearing more info, and also seeing how this plays out as far as the lineup goes.

Info wouldn't come out at night, they'd wait till the press conference today to talk about it. I'm betting it's serious...otherwise with the great camp reggie was having why even bring in another safety.

I guess it could be that the injury, even if it's not serious, made them realize that they aren't confident in their depth at FS if someone did get hurt long term. The drop from smith to madieu williams or mays must not be something they were looking forward to dealing with.

Goldson should put up some solid numbers in fangio's scheming defense.

ok guys lets discuss goldosn

i would much rather have smith who has better hands and ballhawk but with goldson we essentially ave to SS he is great against the run and although he has great hands his coverage is suspect

anyone agree or disagree hopefully ed D can help with his coverage

the niners have wanted goldson back the whole time. evidently they disagree with you and many on this board about who is the better safety. it is possible that the smith injury is serious which led to the deal. but i suspect the niners have been trying to bring him back the whole time by putting an offer on the table. when the offer wasnt matched by another team he signed with the niners.

i bet his ego is severly bruised right now. talk about a humbling expirence, you went from expecting weddle type money to a 1 year deal worth probably 4-5 mill. poor guy, i really feel for him. his damn agent probably pumped his head so full of crap that he thought he was going to cash in, and deserved too.

i think this could be good for him though. now he knows if he wants to get paid he has to step his game up and play better then he has for teams to take notice. he has something to prove now, not just to the niners but to the entire nfl who didnt lock up his services. he is going to be playing with a huge chip on his shoulder this year and i look for that to have a positive impact.

glad your back goldson, give`em hell.
Rolling up the Goldson thread
Can the named at least be changed to say he's signed?

It was, it takes a minute.
I was hoping he wouldn't be back so we could see what else we had on the roster.

Since he is back, ill welcome him back into the fold, and hope that his injury is really what was wrong with him last year.

With him back im sure taylor mays is getting traded now. i wish we could find a way to keep him.

He should be really good in the fangio defense, rack his numbers up, then cash in next year. I was ok with reggie because people were saying he was looking amazing in TC, but I admit I like how our safety's look with whitner-dashon in the backfield. They combine for 220 tackles lol.
Talking about eating crow Now Goldson, shut your mouth and focus on not getting burned all the damn time.

ESPN is reporting it as 1 yr/$2million. Not bad.
