I see your point but they did what they did. I think if anything it helped us. It made the niners focus on blitz pick up which they are sure to work on now. It helped the qbs and wrs to work on the hot reads. It will most certainly help ck he has a lot of things to still work on.

In short thank you saints for giving us a much needed wake up call.

Eh...if they did that - then we should have sent blitzes at them. You've to adapt. We should have ran screens, we should have run more slants, we should have run the ball to the outside. But whatever, it's preseason - and I'm not going to over-react to last week's game. It happens. Preseason means s**t. It was just a little disappointing that we didn't do anythin' to slow down their rushers - and we could have done it by callin' some different plays.

Also, I don't think Saints did anythin' wrong or something uncalled for. There is no secret that Greg Williams loves to blitz, and I don't fault him for tryin' to see where his team is at.

I would normally agree, except due to this strike shortened offseason, all gentlemen's rules are out the window.

The Saints need to work on their blitz packages, so whatever. Bring on the Faiders.

It seemed clear that the Niners were expecting the typical early preseason game, with the usual gentleman's agreement to not blitz. This is a time for all teams to run basic plays, to work on fundamental things, to evaluate talent in a managed setting. I can't ever remember any team blitzing at this time of the season, ever. It is even traditional to hear the broadcasters mention this every year, how there will be no blitzing because teams aren't ready for that, don't want injuries to the QBs and so on.

Coaches don't want to spend valuable time teaching sophisticated anti-blitz schemes to players who are not even going to make the team. Normally these systems are installed later in the pre-season when the roster is half-way set at least. The Niners just had no answer, nothing installed to employ to answer the blitzing.

The Saints knew that the Niners were starting over in so many ways and that the short preseason was especially difficult for them. They must have known that the blitzing would be almost unfairly successful and would prove nothing nor help their own cause much. But they did it anyway. It was all so odd.

What it did was set the Niners back a bit. Nobody could be evaluated in that climate and now maybe the team will have to spend some time focusing on something they didn't want to at this point. Maybe that was the plan, to screw up the Niners and delay their emergence as a really good team. Maybe it was to insult JH, the new Golden Boy. Maybe it was just an ego-driven a-h move.

I agree that the Saints knew that exploiting the Niner pass protection with blitzes would be low hanging fruit. Gregg Williams seemed giddy about that fact and couldn't help himself. Typically you see teams rush with their base packages until it's demonstrated that they can't get pressure with a four man rush . . . then you start sending an extra man or two to the QB.

I don't agree that they screwed us. It will be a good training tool. On to the Raiders.

I think they did us a favor. We know what we need to work on now.

I admit the Saints are dicks, but I'm happy they did it. -We could have been walking into another sand-trap like last year on our opening game against Seattle.

Harbaugh and Payton hugged after the game (like a bunch of buddies), so it makes you wonder.
