I am so SICK of the York family vs Debartolo as an owner

Can you imagine Eddie Debartolo stating that the niners will not be a major player in FA? What kind of crap is that to spew to fans when you are trying to get a stadium passed and get back to the play offs.

They can pop off all they want about Smith, Kaepernick, 10 UDFA's signed today. The reality is if the niners signed Hasselbeck, James Jones and Asoughma, bam, they are the odds on favorite to win the NFC West.

Instead the niners will re sign their own mediocre players, (ray mcdonald, alex smith) and keep on losing.

Thank you for making my point. Hasselbeck and Asoughma would be foundations to build an offense and defense around. Granted Hasselbecks primary role would be to win now and groom Kaepernick. Not signing Lawson and Franklin are already done deals, so you are talking about Goldson, Baas and Nate Clements. Please tell me you understand the niners would win more game with Hasselbeck and Asoiughma than the aforementioned players.

I am so sick of losing, it kills me to see so many quality FA's that the niners are not even considering. Look at the FA rankings, no 9ers rank high.

Oh, I think you misunderstood AB

Call me crazy, but I would be fine with cutting Clements and letting Franklin/Lawson/Goldson walk in FA if that opens up enough cap space to sign Asomugha.

I like what I have seen from Reggie Smith in limited playing time, and feel he could be an upgrade over Goldson at FS. Mays needs to step up and take ownership of the starting SS spot.

Brooks can take over for Lawson at OLB, and that could be an upgrade in the pass-rushing department.

Sopoaga should be able to hold down the NT position for at least this year until we can adequately address the position next offseason.

Our overall depth would take a hit this year, but that's a small price to pay to get a player of Asomugha's skill level.

Our starting Defensive 11:

D-Line: McDonald/Sopoaga/J. Smith
LBs: A. Smith/Willis/Spikes/Brooks
DBs: Asomugha/R. Smith/Mays/Spencer

Sofa king is putting some veterans to shame. Their are so many FA that are superior to the niners FA;'s, is it that hard to see that signing a superior FA is better than signing a player just because they where on the team before. Remember their is a new offensive and defensive system, so prior experience with team is not as important.

I don't think a 35 year old Hasselbeck is someone ANY team wants to build around.

Can you say stop-gap?

They have a franchise to worry about. If you're close to the making it to the Super Bowl, then maybe you overspend on a couple of free agents. But if you're the 49ers, with a new staff and a new system, and your coaches aren't even sure of what they have at the moment, it doesn't make sense to overspend on these older free agents.

From what I've seen I seriously doubt that the Yorks will ever win a SB.
