Cap Value ~ $102M ($6M below floor, $18M below cap)

Contracts that need some attention:

Carr, David QB (current) $2,375,000.00
Clements, Nate CB (current) $17,366,666.00
Heitmann, Eric OL (current) $2,562,500.0
Norris, Moran RB (current) $1,927,500.00

TOT: $24,231,666.00

Restructuring Clements' deal should save ~ $14,000,000.00
Cutting Norris and Carr would free up $4,302,500.00

Releasing Heitmann would probably help next years' cap but not this years'. (at least that's my understanding)

and what about:

Balmer, Kentwan DT (traded) $1,646,750.00
Coffee, Glen RB (released) $414,122.00

Do we have to take the cap hit on those salary numbers for this year?

But we could potentially save $20.36M. More likely ~ $12M

A.Smith ~ $5M/year
D.Goldson ~ $7M/year
D.Baas ~ $3M/year
R.McDonald ~ $2M/year
Backup FA QB ~ $2M/year

TOT: ~ $19M/year

Remaining money:

$102M (current) - $12M (restructuring/cutting) + $19M (own FAs) = $109M (within cap floor)

Free Money for other FA:

< $11M/year

Good breakdown, but we're gonna have to pay our draft picks too.

Good call

That should ax about $5M off our Free Money...

< $6M/year

I thought draft picks were not a part of the normal cap and that there was a slotted amount of "free" money to spend on draft picks.
Nice post Buff.

Only thing we would lose is the players bonuses. Unfortunately Maiocco only posted entire cap figures and not the base and bonuses. But still very minimal for the said players.

as far as Balmer and Coffee, yes they count this yr, though I dont believe Coffee even counts, as he retired/quit. Wasn't actually cut/released.

How are we broke? We are well under the cap and the floor and we should have even more cap room when clements contract is restructured.

_______

What?

Not saying we will pay the $15m/yr to get Nnamdi... but the $102m (before rookies) we're currently using in cap space puts us in the middle of the league. We were also just listed in Forbes as the 29th most valuable sports franchise in the entire world.

Not really seeing the logic in the "broke ass franchise" comment here.

Most of my numbers are on, the ones I am surprised about are.

A.Davis, Iupati, J.Smith and Gore.

From my prior info from a fellow cap guy, Iupati and A.Davis were to receive semi big-big roster bonuses for 2011, unless of course the niners decided to put them all into the uncapped yr saving cap space for 2011.

This seems correct, as Clayton reports today that we are 19.4M under which Im surprised. I also factored in Brandon Jones being on the dead money, and apparently he isnt. And I had a bigger number for Balmer.

Oh and the 250.00 is correct, that was Brock's Signing Bonus as a UDFA when we signed him. He had like a 500.00 Bonus, one of the smallest bonuses given to UDFAs.

Bonuses for them can go from 500.00 all the way to 20-30K, depending on the player.

So how much $$$ would we have to play with? (with or without signing the rookie class)

Could be. I haven't followed the CBA negotiations closely enough to know. I know that didn't used to be the case and they did in fact count against the cap.

nate is not schedule to make that much this year, and goldson is not worth 7 mill

How much is he scheduled to make? With incentives i thought the number was somewhere around 15 million. And I agree with you on Goldson. In no way is Goldson worth 7 million a year.

All of Clements' contract counts against the cap including the incentive money. Its about 17 million this year and it goes up next year to around 19

even if we dont cut Norris, Carr or anyone, and we do re-do Nate's deal or release him, as of now, 18M, minus about 5M for rooks, leaves about 13M to play with. But remember only the top 51 players count against the cap. So everytime we sign a drafted rookie to a contract, only his bonus will be added to the cap figure.

The 102M cap figure is for the 49 under contract, not including Spillman, who is a ERFA but can't go anywhere else.

Nate will restructure, thats my hunch. We will save between 8-12M IMO.

That money will be used or the left over will be used on Alex, Baas, McDonald and Spikes. I imagine those players wont go over 12M for 2011.

this whole new news really screws me up. The deals for the 1st rd picks from a yr ago make no sense. But oh well, lol.
yes, rookie salaries count against the cap, but honestly, after signing FAs, the only real players that will affect the cap are gonna be Aldon, Kaep and maybe Culliver and Hunter.

The rest of the 10 picks wont affect the cap in a big way, even Culliver and Hunter wont.
So distilling all the above information, we should have between $5M and $15M of free money after we lock up Alex Smith, David Baas, Ray McDonald, Takeo Spikes, Aldon Smith, Colin Kaepernick, and the rest of the rookies.

I think Goldson will be resigned and Clements will be restructured, which should put the number anywhere from $0-$10M of Free Money available.

Do the Niner's go after a big time FA with the remaining money or stay near the cap floor for this year?
