Pass Rushing Statistics - How Valid Are they?

Pittsburgh finished first, Green Bay tied for second in sacks and both teams ended up in the Super Bowl. They might be important.

True, but sacks are also representative of pressure & hits on the QB. Without looking at any statistics I'd be willing to bet both teams are in the top 5 in those categories as well.

Sacks are great, but they can arise from inconsistent situations (coverage, broken plays, etc). As long as pressure and hits are constant, sacks and int's will result from that pressure.

From the games I watched last season, allot of GB's sacks came from overall amazing coverage which gave Clay & Co. the time they needed to track down the QB.

With Pit, their front 7 is just beastly. The pocket collapses so fast that if the result isn't a sack, more times than not the QB will still end up on the ground. Not to mention Troy with his ruhtarded football instincts as an additional rusher, half the time you would of thought he was in the offensive huddle.

For the niners I'd love to be either or both of these types of defenses, but it seems lately that we are kind of in the middle of these two different defensive styles, without being exceptional at either. Let's hope that changes this year under our new DC.
