Kaep had solid to great passing numbers this year...combining that with his ability to score from any point on the field and we're looking at one of the most talented QB's in the history of the NFL...oh yeah, and he scored a 38 on the wonderlic...where's the downside with this kid!?

The downside is VD, Crabtree wont be able to catch his passes!

I think ALL of the WR's will catch much better from Kap than they did from Alex due to one key reason: timing.

Alex's balls got to the receivers late more often than they got there with perfect timing. Receivers absolutely hate sitting on the end of a route waiting for the ball even if it is a split second late. That's the worst feeling as a receiver...when you just got open and everyone knows where the ball is going but the QB is taking too long to get it there and you know that instead of grabbing it for some YAC, you will most likely be whacked on catch.

I keep hearing a lot of quotes that Kaepernick is more athletic than the #1 pick. If this is true and the #1 pick is a developmental QB, then we got a damn good value.

I haven't seen one scouting report that Kap has great timing. I think Alex will have better timing this year just because of the WCo and our coach. He has to get it into our QB's heads that they have to trust the play call and trust that the reciever will be in the right spot. There were times last year where our recievers didn't run the right rout and it was mostly Crabs.

Sometimes, how fast the ball gets there makes up for a slightly late read. Alex may have better timing pre throw, but his see-receiver/throw-to-receiver timing isn't all that great. His armstrength also suffers big time if he isn't throwing from a perfect set and stance.
people are complaining about alex throwing a little fast wait till they see kaep

The only problem is that Alex threw a little too fast to guys 5 yards away from him and too late to guys 15 yards away from him.

Just give me a QB with some touch, accuracy, ability to throw off balance with a little zip and I'm good.

alex just needs to work on his touch his accuracy is pretty good also needs to work on throwing hard on short passes however crabtree was the only one who had a problem catching those

If he hasn't fixed such a basic thing by his 7th year more likely then not he can never fix it.

They swapped 2nd round picks and they gave up a 4th and 5th rounders.

I'm surprised they gave up so much to get this guy. Seems desperate. Scouting reports say he is very raw and a development project. Now, maybe in the hands of Harbaugh that will pay big dividends a couple years down the line, but that seems like an awfully steep price. All we needed, IMO, is an accurate passer who can distribute the ball. This guy is one of those runner/passer hybrids.

I'd say for our possible starting QB of the future it's not much at all, we didn't even lose a 3rd. Plus think of what it says that our team traded up in the 2nd to get this guy.

Ordering my jersey soon

Agreed. I'm sure Harbaugh figured he saw something in Colin. If this works out and he turns out to be a decent starter, the pickw as worth it (remember if we had decent QB play this year, or even a decent backup, we would be in the playoffs).

Colin Kaepernick, QB, San Francisco 49ers: Kaepernick has a funky delivery and is going to have a huge jump in competition, but this is a perfect guy for 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh to mold. And Kaepernick is as talented as any quarterback in this draft. To go along with that talent, Kaepernick is considered a very hard worker with exceptional character. And he makes very good decisions with the football. Even though Alex Smith is likely to open as the Niners' starter, Kaepernick, a four-year starter in college, might not be as far away as many tend to think. Kaepernick could be a star. I love this pick for San Francisco. The Bengals will regret passing on Kaepernick for Andy Dalton.

Im impressed with how he carries himself in interviews. It will be very easy to like this guy if he turns out to be a franchise QB.

CHAMPIONSHIP!

I dunno if he's MORE athletic than Newton, but he's different. Cam is big and fast and he's a bruiser. He' HUGE and runs over people. He has a cannon and a really good delivery.

All of his problems are between his ears. I think he'll be an ENORMOUS bust. Not a fan.

Kaep is a different type of athlete. Yes, he's up to 233 lbs, but he got to college at 6'5" and 170 lbs. He looked UBER skinny early on. He's much more apt to run around you than through you. He SERIOUSLY reminds me of Randall Cunningham.

What he is tho is FAST (faster than Cam). His arm strength is on par with Newton if not a bit better, but his realease is odd and slow and needs work. He also played at a smaller school and needs alot of work.

Knowing all that tho I'd MUCH rather have Kaep over Cam. Why? The grey matter between their ears. Kaep will work at it. He's smarter and he's a much better kid.

I think the combination of Harbaugh and Kaep may produce one hell of a QB in a few yars.

Just found out that Kap 23 years old, thats 3 year older then AS was when he was drafted. Also he has started a lot more games in college. I think he will be ready to play a lot faster then some of you may think.
