A Lawson/Miller combo with Brooks in pass rush situations, working in Fangio's blitz packages would be a very good package.

Haralson has been the weak link in the OLB group, not Lawson.

Interesting read. Any thoughts on Razzano? Certainly his dad has credibility, but I know nothing about him.

(Let's TRY not to turn this into an Alex Smith thread.) It's interesting that Razzano says Harbaugh only sees Alex Smith's good cut-ups. Do you think that's entirely true though? I would think that Harbaugh would be presented with the NOTABLE film--both good AND bad.

The MOST interesting thing I thought is that Razzano thinks Harbaugh's opinion could overrule Baalke. They seem to be on the same page, but who knows how that could turn out.

He loses all credibility with me for comparing Gabbert to Andrew Walter. Mike Mayock, who I think is a very good evaluator, has Gabbert No. 1 on his QB board.

eh, if I had to make a choice, I think I would pick Quinn as he is bigger and better able to disengage. However, Miller has that quickness and shoulder dip that reminds me so much of Dwight Freeney.

In the end, either one would work to free up Lawson and make him the kind of player he can be in the pass rush.

I agree with Razzano on most of it.

On the subject of Lawson what is his deal?

Doesn't he have all the physical skills that say a Von Miller has?

Why can't he get to the QB? Is it his mental makeup? Plays a little too passive? Is it our scheme? Did they have him spend too much time covering TEs?

I actually think that a good amount of effort has been put into turning Lawson into a sack artist. Lawson himself has realized this and has mentioned this fact in several interviews. Furthermore, he has tried to increased his lower body strength to try and achieve greater explosiveness of the snap.

I'm going to speculate that his knee injury has had a lasting effect. I remember early in his career, Lawson seemed like a more promising LB than P. Willis. I would also add that Lawson just doesn't the variety of moves that more accomplished OLBs do. In my opinion, he especially can't seem to turn the corner.

The knee injury is a good point. I had forgotten that. His blitzes seem to get stonewalled whenever he's picked up. He doesn't appear to generate any power and he's a straight-on rusher.

Get manny back please... We need him on defense, great freaking combination with him and pwillis.

bad news i liked lawson a lot he was probally one of the best all around OLB in nfl and now were gonna have to find a replacement for him (hopefully laboy and brooks will be starters)

LOL @ being one of the best OLB's in the league when you play in a 3-4 defense and can't rush the passer.
