Why didn't Baalke draft a QB last year ?

I think a lot of people are forgetting that Alex ended last season on a relatively high note, and most people thought his arrows were finally pointing the right way. If had performed well this season he likely would have been extended.

Combine that with the fact that Baalke really had very little time to prepare for the draft and QB is a pretty hard position to scout, and it's not that surprising at all.
1. Sam Bradford - Not possible
2. Jimmy Clausen - Hell f**kin' no
3. Colt McCoy - I guess....but, meh
4. Tim Tebow??
5. Max Hall??
6. Tony Pike???
7. Joe Webb? - okay i could go for that but what's the point.

it was a crappy draft class for qb's, and they already invested in Dingleberry's genius plan of Smith & Carr

If moron Sing had just stayed with the capable backup that was already here, Hill, we'd be fine right now, CBA or not.
For the same reason that we traded Shaun Hill...Singletary didn't want Alex to feel "pressured" by anyone behind him.

The real mistake was trading Hill.

It still baffles me why so many people don't take this into consideration. That whole if you need a QB now draft one now mentality drives me nuts. Why not look ahead a bit???

Of course this is coming from someone who in March 2005 wanted us to draft Braylon Edwards and save the QB pick for the next year and draft Jay Cutler. But alas, our leadership fell for the good ol draft a QB now cus you need one now line of thought.

I too think last Aprils' QB class was pretty weak too. I didn't want Alex Smith, but I did not want a QB drafted last year either

At the very least we could have some bodies at the position to potential back ups later. And who knows one those kids could have possibly developed into a stop gap rather then have Carr as the only QB on the roster. Im not saying we needed to draft a QB in the first round.

it would not have made any sense to draft a QB in any round last year. It did not take much forethought to see that Raye and Sing were on the hot seat...so it was pretty predictable that we would end up in this situation now. New HC, New OC...etc etc ...so now is the time to draft a QB....last draft would have meant that QB would have to switch systems in just his 2nd year

I guess maybe we could have taken a flier on McCoy, but I don't think it matters. Who ever we drafted last year would be starting over with a new system this year anyway. Our QB cupboard is bare right now, but Baalke will have some excellent help shopping for groceries in 2011.

The 49ers learned of pre-draft reports Harbaugh wrote while with the Raiders in 2002 and '03. His reports were "spot on," according to a source. Harbaugh placed a second-round grade on Tony Romo, who went undrafted. He had a higher grade on Jaguars fourth-round draft pick David Garrard, who has been a solid NFL starter the past four seasons. Harbaugh did not have a good grade on Joey Harrington, the third overall pick of the Lions in 2002.

The Panthers really drafted 3 QB's?

Hey, don't pick on Davis.... the dude was hungry.
I could see the Niners drafting two QB's in this years draft---anywhere from the 2nd to 6th rounds.

We have 10 draft picks in total---including 2 4ths, 2 6ths and 2 7ths.
